The Litigation Paralegal role at Our Children’s Trust is a full-time remote position supporting a nationally recognized legal nonprofit focused on advancing children’s rights through climate and environmental litigation. The organization works across multiple U.S. jurisdictions to bring strategic cases that seek constitutional and human rights protections for youth impacted by climate change. The paralegal functions as a core member of the litigation team, ensuring that legal processes, filings, and case management systems are executed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with court requirements.
This position reports to the Senior Litigation Paralegal and collaborates closely with attorneys and legal leadership, including the Deputy Director of Litigation Practice and Deputy Director of U.S. Strategy. The role involves a high level of coordination across jurisdictions, requiring strong organizational skills, legal technical knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
Core Responsibilities
Case Management and Court Filings
- Oversees assigned case files across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring documents are properly organized in case management systems
- Tracks court rules, procedural requirements, and litigation deadlines
- Prepares, edits, and files legal documents through various electronic court filing systems
- Formats legal documents, tables, and citations in accordance with court standards
- Maintains accurate docketing and ensures timely updates across active cases
Legal Research and Document Review
- Conducts foundational legal research using tools such as Westlaw
- Performs cite-checking and verification of legal and scientific references
- Reviews and summarizes case-related documents for attorney use
- Assists in preparing discovery materials, pleadings, and trial binders
- Supports fact-checking and evidence review for litigation strategy development
Discovery and Evidence Management
- Manages electronic discovery processes, including incoming and outgoing document production
- Organizes subpoenas, deposition notices, and discovery requests
- Maintains structured and accessible digital document repositories
- Assists in preparing materials for hearings, meetings, and trials
Litigation and Trial Support
- Prepares materials for depositions, hearings, and trial proceedings
- Coordinates logistics for court reporters, service providers, and transcripts
- Supports attorneys in preparing for litigation strategy meetings
- Assists in assembling binders and presentation materials for court use
Client and Plaintiff Coordination
- Supports communication and coordination with plaintiffs involved in cases
- Assists in tracking client-related updates and documentation
- Helps manage travel arrangements, reimbursements, and logistical needs for plaintiffs
- Provides status updates in coordination with attorneys and legal staff
Administrative and Team Support
- Prepares agendas and records minutes for legal team meetings
- Maintains task tracking systems and internal legal workflows
- Supports scheduling and coordination of meetings and deadlines
- Assists with presentations, reporting materials, and internal documentation
- Contributes to pro bono reporting and outreach documentation
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Possesses 5–7+ years of litigation paralegal experience in complex or multi-jurisdictional cases
- Demonstrates strong familiarity with constitutional, human rights, environmental, or civil rights litigation
- Exhibits high proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw and citation formatting using Bluebook standards
- Has experience managing electronic case files, docket systems, and document management platforms
- Shows advanced competency in Microsoft 365 tools, including SharePoint and collaborative systems
- Demonstrates ability to meet tight deadlines and respond quickly to litigation demands
- Exhibits strong self-management skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Has experience coordinating with legal teams across different time zones and jurisdictions

Work Environment and Requirements
- Fully remote position, with preference for candidates aligned with Pacific Time working hours
- Standard workweek is Monday to Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work during critical case periods
- May require occasional travel depending on litigation needs, with expenses covered by the organization
- Requires prolonged computer use, document handling, and detailed digital review work
- Must be able to handle physical tasks such as lifting case files or boxes up to approximately 20 pounds when needed
