Position Summary
The Lead Exposure Elimination Project (LEEP) is seeking a strategic and mission-aligned Head of People to lead organizational culture, people systems, and global talent development as the organization continues to scale its impact worldwide.
This senior leadership role is responsible for designing and delivering a comprehensive people strategy that supports LEEP’s rapid growth, global operations, and commitment to excellence. The Head of People will ensure that talent, culture, and systems remain aligned with LEEP’s mission to eliminate childhood lead poisoning—one of the world’s most overlooked public health crises.

- Hours: Full-time
- Location: Remote, with preference for London
- London-based staff are required to co-work from the office three days per week
- LEEP does not sponsor visas for this role
- Time Zone: UTC -5 to UTC +3, with strong preference for UTC to UTC +3

About LEEP
LEEP is an evidence-based nonprofit dedicated to eliminating childhood lead exposure, which affects an estimated one in three children globally. The organization primarily focuses on lead paint elimination by generating data, supporting governments with regulation and enforcement, and assisting manufacturers in transitioning to lead-free paint.
Beyond paint programs, LEEP is piloting interventions targeting other sources of lead exposure, including spices and cosmetics.
Since its founding in 2020, LEEP has:
- Launched lead paint elimination programs in 37 countries
- Completed paint studies in 22 countries
- Supported regulatory efforts in 18 countries
- Contributed to manufacturers representing over 50% market share reformulating to lead-free paint in 17 countries
- Demonstrated a 50% reduction in lead paint market share in Malawi through repeat studies
- Conducted lead-in-spices research in Ethiopia and Türkiye
LEEP is recognized as one of the most cost-effective global health interventions and is a partner to WHO, UN Environment Programme, USAID, and UNICEF initiatives.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of People will lead LEEP’s people strategy across a fast-scaling, globally distributed organization. This role directly supports the effectiveness of teams delivering high-impact public health interventions worldwide.
The Head of People serves as a strategic partner to senior leadership, shaping how LEEP hires, develops, supports, and retains exceptional talent. The role balances strategic design with hands-on execution and leads a growing People Team composed of employees, consultants, and external partners.
Core Responsibilities
People Strategy and Leadership
- Design and deliver a global people strategy aligned with LEEP’s mission and rapid growth
- Advise senior leadership on organizational development, workforce planning, and change management
- Lead and manage the People Team across multiple regions
Talent Lifecycle Management
- Oversee global recruitment strategy in partnership with the Recruitment Manager
- Ensure transparent, inclusive, and high-quality hiring processes
- Lead onboarding, offboarding, succession planning, and workforce development
Performance, Learning, and Development
- Oversee performance management and progression frameworks
- Support managers and teams with training and development tools
- Lead learning and development strategy and implementation
Culture and Organizational Health
- Promote and embed LEEP’s values and culture globally
- Design internal communications and engagement initiatives
- Lead planning for the annual team retreat
- Conduct engagement surveys and organizational health assessments
Compliance and People Operations
- Oversee HR operations, HRIS implementation, payroll coordination, and record-keeping
- Ensure compliance with employment regulations across jurisdictions
- Maintain global policies, handbooks, and guidelines
Leadership and Judgement
- Provide confidential support on sensitive people matters
- Contribute actively to leadership and operations teams
- Exercise strong judgement in complex and ambiguous situations
What LEEP Is Looking For
- Strong alignment with LEEP’s mission, values, and culture
- Proven experience shaping or delivering people strategy in a growing organization
- Excellence in people management, coaching, and leadership support
- Outstanding communication, discretion, and judgement
- Experience in recruitment and international HR contexts
- Comfort operating in startup and scaling environments
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience (HR, operations, people management, or organizational design)
- Experience working or living in low- and middle-income countries is an advantage
