About LEEP

LEEP is an evidence-based nonprofit working to eliminate childhood lead poisoning. Its programmes currently focus on major sources of lead exposure, including paint, spices, and traditional eyeliners.

The organization works with governments, industries, and other partners to generate evidence, support the development and enforcement of regulations, and help manufacturers eliminate lead from products.

LEEP currently operates programmes in more than 40 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Its international team works across five continents and represents more than 10 languages.

About the Regional Head Role

The Regional Head (Francophone Africa) will combine senior people management with strategic programme leadership. The successful candidate will lead approximately three to five Program Managers and help ensure their work aligns with LEEP’s wider goals and mission.

The Regional Head will work closely with the Program Director, senior leadership, and other regional leaders. The position involves providing strategic advice, supporting government and stakeholder engagement, and helping teams respond effectively to complex challenges.

The role may also involve contributing to cross-functional projects and supporting work beyond LEEP’s current lead paint programmes as the organization expands.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic programme guidance will account for approximately 40% of the role. Duties include reviewing Program Managers’ plans, providing strategic feedback, supporting major programme milestones, advising teams on complex challenges, and serving as an escalation point for important stakeholders.

The Regional Head will also guide government engagement, policymaker relationships, industry communications, team budgets, and resource allocation.

Another 40% of the position will focus on team management. Responsibilities include leading and inspiring Program Managers, setting expectations, providing coaching and feedback, supporting professional development, conducting performance reviews, and building a collaborative team culture.

Approximately 15% of the role will involve developing programme and internal systems, including improving the organization’s programme playbook and strengthening internal processes.

The remaining 5% will involve special projects and high-priority cross-functional initiatives.

Requirements

Applicants should demonstrate strong people-management and coaching experience, together with the ability to guide strategic plans and manage projects aligned with organizational objectives.

Candidates should have excellent stakeholder management, influencing, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Experience working in low- and middle-income countries or collaborating with governments and policymakers is highly relevant.

Applicants must have at least five years of relevant professional experience and experience leading teams. Experience working remotely and managing remote teams is expected unless the candidate is based in London.

Full professional proficiency in English and French is required. Candidates must also be willing to travel for approximately 8–12 weeks each year.
