About the IT Director Role

The IT Director serves as the senior leader responsible for IPA’s global information technology function. Reporting to the Senior Director, Operations & Systems, the successful candidate will shape the organization’s technology strategy, oversee governance frameworks, strengthen cybersecurity practices, and lead a team of technology professionals.

This position focuses on leadership, management, and strategic direction rather than hands-on technical implementation. The successful candidate will build strong systems, empower team members, and ensure technology investments align with organizational goals and operational realities.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy and Governance

The IT Director will:

• Develop and maintain IPA’s global technology strategy.
• Align technology investments with organizational priorities and resources.
• Establish and oversee IT governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
• Ensure compliance with donor, regulatory, and operational requirements.
• Advise senior leadership on technology risks and opportunities.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and automation.

Leadership and Team Development

The successful candidate will:

• Lead and manage a global team of IT professionals.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
• Build a culture of accountability, service excellence, and documentation.
• Recruit talent to address capability gaps and strengthen technical ownership.
• Coordinate priorities and resource allocation across the technology function.

Cybersecurity, Compliance, and Risk Management

Responsibilities include:

• Leading information security strategy and implementation.
• Managing organizational risk related to technology and data protection.
• Supporting audit readiness and compliance initiatives.
• Overseeing responses to security incidents and data breaches.
• Ensuring compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.

Organizational Alignment and Change Management

The IT Director will also:

• Lead change management efforts for major technology initiatives.

• Manage IT budgets and vendor relationships.
• Monitor service-level agreements and technology performance.
• Promote effective communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

IPA is seeking an experienced technology leader with a proven track record of managing enterprise technology environments and leading high-performing teams.

Required qualifications include:

• At least 7 years of senior IT leadership experience.
• Minimum of 5 years managing technical teams and senior IT professionals.
• Experience overseeing SaaS platforms, enterprise systems, and cloud environments.
• Experience serving as a senior escalation authority for technical or security incidents.
• Strong knowledge of IT governance frameworks and internal controls.
• Experience with data protection, compliance, and audit requirements.
• Expertise in vendor management, budgeting, and service delivery oversight.
• Proven experience leading enterprise technology change initiatives.
• Strong ability to communicate complex technology topics to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional qualifications that may strengthen an application include:

• Experience leading technology functions across multiple countries.
• Background in nonprofit, international development, or donor-funded organizations.
• Experience implementing AI or automation initiatives.
• Knowledge management and collaboration platform transformation experience.
• Professional working proficiency in Spanish or French.
