The YouLead Africa is recruiting a Regional Associate (West Africa) to support the implementation of the African Union Youth Charter and coordinate youth-led engagement across West Africa.

YouLead Africa is dedicated to advancing the political and economic integration of young people across the African continent. Over the past eight years, the initiative has focused primarily on East Africa, expanding to continental engagement in 2020.

In 2026, marking the 20th anniversary of the African Union Youth Charter, YouLead will conduct continental consultations assessing the Charter’s implementation at:
- National level
- Regional level
- Continental level
These consultations aim to strengthen youth participation in governance and improve coordination across regions.
Role Overview
The Regional Associate – West Africa will play a key coordination role in supporting regional consultation processes and strengthening networks of youth-led and youth-serving organizations.

The role reports to the YouLead Projects Coordinator or Programme Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Youth Organization Mapping & Consortium Development
- Identify and map youth-led and youth-serving organizations in West Africa relevant to the African Union Youth Charter
- Support the establishment of a West African consortium focused on youth governance and policy advocacy
- Facilitate collaboration among consortium members
Coordination & Communication
- Manage stakeholder communication, including responding to inquiries
- Establish and moderate a WhatsApp communication group for consortium members
- Provide guidance, networking opportunities, and relevant updates
- Coordinate consortium activities and engagement processes
Consultation Planning & Documentation
- Co-design and support one virtual regional consultation on the Youth Charter
- Document key discussion points, participant engagement, and outcomes
- Contribute to narrative reporting on consultation activities
- Liaise with consultants and partners on Charter-related initiatives
Reporting & Administrative Support
- Submit monthly activity reports outlining progress against deliverables
- Support additional tasks as assigned by programme leadership
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Development Studies, Public Policy, Law, Social Sciences, or related field
- Final-year students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply
- Additional certification in youth leadership, governance, civic engagement, or advocacy is an advantage
Experience & Competencies
The ideal candidate demonstrates:
- Strong interest in youth governance and policy advocacy
- Effective communication and networking skills
- Experience engaging youth-led or youth-serving organizations (advantageous)
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Comfort using digital tools such as WhatsApp, email, and virtual meeting platforms
