Friends of Kenya Schools and Wildlife is Hiring a Part-Time Administrator | Remote | $25–$30/hour

Friends of Kenya Schools and Wildlife is seeking a Part-Time Administrator to support its growing international operations. This is a remote role open to candidates globally and designed for someone who is highly organized, adaptable, and motivated by community-driven development work.

The organization works to strengthen education and community development initiatives in Kenya, partnering closely with local stakeholders to support sustainable, locally led impact.

Position Overview

The Part-Time Administrator will provide essential support across administration, communications, fundraising coordination, and operational systems. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys multitasking, working independently, and contributing to the internal structure of a mission-driven nonprofit.

Because the organization is small and evolving, the role requires flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to take on varied responsibilities as priorities shift.

This position begins on June 1, 2026, with an application deadline of May 15, 2026. Compensation is $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience.

Core Responsibilities

1. Board and Governance Support

The administrator will play a key role in supporting the Board of Directors and ensuring effective governance processes:

  • Organize and prepare materials for board meetings
  • Attend meetings and record detailed minutes
  • Track board decisions and follow up on action items
  • Support communication between board members and committees
  • Maintain documentation of governance processes and decisions

2. Fundraising and Donor Communications

A major part of the role involves supporting fundraising and donor engagement activities:

  • Assist in preparing newsletters and donor updates (biannual)
  • Draft and distribute donation appeals in coordination with committees
  • Support development of a structured stock donation program
  • Manage donor communications, acknowledgments, and thank-you letters
  • Help maintain donor relationships and onboarding processes

3. Administrative and Operations Support

The administrator will help ensure smooth day-to-day operations across the organization:

  • Coordinate logistics for fundraising events and program updates
  • Support travel planning for board visits and monitoring trips to Kenya (1–2 times per year)
  • Communicate regularly with Kenya-based partners for reporting and updates
  • Manage scheduling, email correspondence, and document organization
  • Maintain databases and records using tools such as Google Workspace or CRM systems

4. Financial and Bookkeeping Support

This role includes basic financial tracking and reporting responsibilities:

  • Record and track revenue and expenses
  • Issue donor receipts and maintain financial documentation
  • Reconcile accounts with bank statements
  • Assist with quarterly financial reporting and budgeting processes
  • Support annual compliance filings (including Form 990 and related documentation)

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote environment. Requirements include:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail)
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
  • Experience with remote collaboration tools such as Zoom, Slack, or Asana
  • Prior experience in administrative, fundraising, or nonprofit support roles
  • Strong ethical standards and cultural sensitivity

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following experience is considered beneficial:

  • Background in nonprofit administration or international development
  • Familiarity with financial tracking or bookkeeping systems
  • Experience working with or supporting East African or Kenyan partners
  • Understanding of community-led development principles
  • Experience supporting donor relations or fundraising campaigns
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills
  • Ability to translate strategic goals into structured operational systems

Role Environment

This is a remote position that requires self-direction and strong time management skills. The administrator will work closely with both U.S.-based leadership and Kenya-based partners, often across time zones.
