The Organizational Unit: DKS Department

The internship is hosted within the Digital Knowledge Society Department (DKS)—a division that plays a central role in:

• Advancing regulatory and market knowledge
• Coordinating international ICT statistics
• Supporting innovation culture in Member States
• Promoting youth participation, gender equality, and accessibility

DKS is also responsible for compiling and disseminating global ICT statistics, serving as a key reference point for evidence-based policymaking.

Terms of Reference: What the Intern Will Do

The selected intern will support the drafting of a regional report on ICT statistics by carrying out three main tasks.

1. Collect and Review Statistical Information

• Search and review websites of national statistical offices across Latin America and the Caribbean.
• Identify surveys—recent or planned—that include ICT access and use indicators.
• Gather details such as:
  • Survey calendars
  • ICT-related questions
  • Dissemination formats
  • Funding sources
  • Any additional information identified with ITU guidance

2. Systematize and Consolidate Data

• Organize and harmonize the collected information.
• Integrate findings with historical ICT indicators submitted to ITU.
• Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of regional statistical inputs.

3. Prepare Communication Materials

• Develop a clear and engaging presentation summarizing key findings.
• Draft a blog article highlighting the importance of household surveys in measuring digital inclusion.
• Support knowledge-sharing efforts within the department.

Required Competencies

ITU seeks candidates who demonstrate:

• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Solid organizational abilities and attention to detail
• Experience in collecting, compiling, and analyzing information
• Good command of Excel and databases
• Knowledge of WordPress (an advantage)

Qualifications

• Education:
  Currently enrolled in or recently completed studies in statistics, public policy, sociology, or data collection.
• Experience:
  No prior work experience required—ideal for emerging professionals building their expertise.
• Languages:
  Advanced Spanish and intermediate English are required (the report and presentation will be produced in Spanish).

About the Internship Programme

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Be under 30 years of age (exceptions possible for PhD candidates)
• Be enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree programme
• Hold citizenship in an ITU Member State

This internship is unpaid. Medical insurance, travel, accommodation, and living expenses must be covered by the intern or their sponsoring institution. Internships at ITU do not carry the same benefits or conditions as short-term or fixed-term contracts.
