INTERSOS, an independent humanitarian organization, has opened applications for the position of WASH Coordinator. The role is central to ensuring safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in disaster- and conflict-affected areas. The WASH Coordinator oversees program strategy, implementation, and monitoring while ensuring alignment with INTERSOS protocols, donor requirements, and sector standards.

Role Overview
The WASH Coordinator is responsible for planning, supervising, and monitoring WASH activities in the assigned country. This role reports to the Head of Mission and manages national staff teams engaged in water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives. The contract is for six months, starting 1 April 2026, with duties located according to the country of assignment.
The WASH Coordinator ensures projects meet minimum standards, are delivered on time, and respond effectively to the needs of the affected population.
Key Responsibilities
Program Management and Technical Oversight
- Design and improve technical aspects of WASH program implementation.
- Define and implement the mission’s WASH strategy, ensuring resource allocation and program integration.
- Oversee water source construction, sanitation projects, and hygiene promotion activities.
- Conduct technical assessments to identify gaps and prioritize intervention areas.
- Undertake regular field visits to provide guidance, supervision, and monitoring.
Coordination and Capacity Building
- Collaborate with logistics, administration, and finance teams to procure necessary materials and equipment.
- Ensure integration of WASH activities with other sectors.
- Build capacity of national WASH staff and evaluate performance regularly.
- Participate in WASH cluster and inter-sectoral coordination meetings at national and local levels.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Compliance
- Prepare narrative and financial reports according to INTERSOS and donor requirements.
- Maintain centralized reporting systems and project databases.
- Ensure adherence to technical, government, and sector standards.
- Collaborate with MEAL teams to monitor indicators and project objectives.
Required Profile and Experience
Education
- MA or BSc in Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, or related fields.
- Specialized studies or courses in WASH in emergencies, Public Health, or WASH academics.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 3 years of humanitarian WASH programming experience for MSc holders, 6 years for BSc holders.
- Prior field experience in complex humanitarian settings, preferably in Africa.
- Proven experience in large-scale water, sanitation, and construction projects, including contract management.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in AutoCAD, EPANET 2, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to relocate to field bases and work under challenging conditions.
Languages
- Excellent written and spoken French; working knowledge of English required.
