African Library Project Seeks Remote Social Media Intern | Deadline 21 June 2026

Individuals passionate about digital communications, nonprofit fundraising, literacy, and international development have an exciting opportunity to join the African Library Project as a Social Media, Digital Fundraising & Website Coordinator. About the African Library Project
Since 2005, the African Library Project has worked to improve literacy and educational opportunities across sub-Saharan Africa by establishing and supporting libraries in partnership with schools, communities, volunteers, and local organizations.
The organization has successfully established more than 4,100 libraries across seven African countries, helping provide children and communities with access to books, reading materials, and educational resources that support lifelong learning.
Through its work, the African Library Project continues to promote literacy, educational equity, and community development across the continent.
About the Internship
The Social Media, Digital Fundraising & Website Coordinator will play a key role in strengthening the organization’s online presence and supporting digital fundraising initiatives.
This internship is ideal for students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals interested in nonprofit communications, social media management, digital marketing, fundraising, and international development.
Working remotely with guidance from organizational leadership, the successful candidate will help share impact stories, engage supporters, and strengthen the organization’s digital communications strategy.
Key Responsibilities
The selected intern will contribute to several important areas of the organization’s communications and fundraising efforts.
Social Media Management
Responsibilities include:
- Planning and creating engaging content.
- Scheduling and publishing posts across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- Supporting audience engagement and community growth.
- Monitoring platform performance and engagement trends.
Website Management
The intern will:
- Update website content regularly.
- Publish impact stories and program updates.
- Maintain donation pages and blog content.
- Ensure information remains current and engaging.
Digital Fundraising Support
Key tasks include:
- Assisting with digital fundraising campaigns.
- Supporting donor engagement and stewardship efforts.
- Helping create content that encourages donor participation.
- Contributing to fundraising communications initiatives.
Analytics and Reporting
The role will also involve:
- Monitoring website traffic using Google Analytics.
- Tracking social media performance metrics.
- Preparing monthly reports and recommendations.
- Supporting data-driven improvements to digital outreach efforts.
Storytelling and Content Development
The successful candidate will:
- Source stories from partner communities across Africa.
- Develop compelling impact-focused content.

Qualifications
The African Library Project is seeking a motivated and creative candidate with strong communication skills and an interest in mission-driven work.
Preferred qualifications include:
- A completed or ongoing degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, International Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in social media content creation.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
- Familiarity with Canva or similar content design tools.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Passion for literacy, education, and African development.
Preferred Skills
Candidates with the following experience may be particularly competitive:
- Previous nonprofit, volunteer, or internship experience.
- Familiarity with Mailchimp.
- Experience using Buffer, Hootsuite, Later, or Meta Business Suite.
- Knowledge of LinkedIn Analytics and Google Analytics.
- Personal, academic, or professional connections to sub-Saharan Africa.
