Heifer International Hiring Benefits & People Administrative Assistant – Salary up to $60k

Heifer International is offering an opportunity for an experienced administrative and human resources professional to join its People Operations team as a Benefits & People Administrative Assistant. The full-time position is remote within the United States and offers an annual salary of $53,000 to $60,000.

The role is particularly suited to candidates with experience in human resources administration, benefits coordination, employee records, HR systems and administrative support. Applications must be submitted by August 21, 2026, at 4:00 PM CT.

About Heifer International

Heifer International is a global nonprofit organization working to address hunger and poverty by supporting farmers, businesses and communities in developing sustainable livelihoods.

The organization traces its origins to 1944, when founder Dan West developed the idea of providing families with livestock rather than simply short-term food assistance. Today, Heifer works across 21 countries, partnering with communities to develop inclusive and resilient economies.

According to the vacancy announcement, the organization has supported more than 36 million farming families across Africa, Asia and the Americas. Its current strategy focuses on helping millions more people move toward living incomes by 2030.

The Benefits & People Administrative Assistant will contribute to this mission by helping ensure that the organization’s U.S.-based employees receive effective administrative, benefits and People Operations support.

About the Benefits & People Administrative Assistant Role

The position is divided equally between Benefits Administration and People Operations, making it a diverse opportunity for someone who enjoys working across multiple HR functions.

The successful candidate will report to the U.S. Total Rewards Manager while working closely with the Benefits and People Operations Specialist.

The position requires someone who can manage confidential information, maintain accurate records, coordinate administrative processes and respond professionally to employee requests.

Key Benefits Administration Responsibilities

Approximately 50% of the position focuses on benefits administration.

The assistant will help review monthly vendor invoices and billing statements, comparing charges against the Benefits Master Ledger and identifying discrepancies. They will also prepare documentation for benefit invoice payments and coordinate routine billing questions with benefits brokers.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Supporting monthly retirement contribution processes
  • Preparing contribution documentation and uploading files into relevant systems
  • Producing routine and ad hoc benefits reports
  • Supporting employee well-being programs
  • Coordinating incentives and prize drawings
  • Maintaining participation records
  • Processing well-being reimbursement requests
  • Managing anniversary gifts and service award information
  • Maintaining recognition letters and anniversary records

These responsibilities require excellent attention to detail because benefits and compensation-related administration often involves sensitive employee information and financial records.

People Operations Responsibilities

The other 50% of the role focuses on general People Operations.

The assistant will process routine unemployment claims, employment verifications and personnel file requests. They will also enter and maintain employee information in HR systems while ensuring that documentation is complete, accurate and properly filed.

Additional duties include supporting:

  • New hire and personnel documentation
  • Payroll and job-description records
  • HR ticketing systems
  • Intern and volunteer setup
  • People team meetings and calendars
  • Employee engagement planning
  • HR reporting and data management
  • Confidential personnel files
  • Team events and administrative activities

The position may also provide backup support to other members of the U.S. People team when required.

Skills and Qualifications Required

Candidates should have an associate degree or continuing education in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field. However, equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.

Applicants should have 2–3 years of administrative experience supporting HR, benefits administration, People Operations, Total Rewards or similar functions.

Experience with HR information systems (HRIS) is important. Candidates should also be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.

The organization is looking for candidates who understand employee lifecycle processes such as onboarding, personnel records administration, benefits administration and offboarding.

Strong organizational skills are essential. The successful candidate should be comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

What Makes This Opportunity Attractive?

One of the main attractions of this position is the combination of HR administration, benefits and employee support. Rather than being limited to one administrative function, the successful candidate will gain exposure to several areas of People Operations.

The role also provides an opportunity to work remotely while supporting an international nonprofit organization with a long-standing focus on poverty reduction, sustainable agriculture and community development.

Heifer International also lists a range of benefits for eligible U.S.-based employees, including health and wellness programs, flexible spending and health savings accounts, an employee assistance program, a 403(b) retirement plan, paid vacation, holidays and sick leave.

Important Location Requirement

Although the position is described as remote, applicants should carefully note that the role is specifically advertised for individuals who can work from anywhere in the United States.

This means that remote does not necessarily mean worldwide. International applicants living outside the United States should review the eligibility requirements carefully before applying.

Candidates living within commuting distance of Heifer International’s Little Rock, Arkansas office may also have access to a hybrid workplace arrangement.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should prepare a complete application demonstrating their experience in HR administration, benefits, employee records, HR systems and remote collaboration.

The application deadline is August 21, 2026, at 4:00 PM Central Time.
