Role Overview
- Position: Manager, Marketing & Communications
- Department: Engagement (fundraising, communications, marketing)
- Location: Ottawa, Ontario (Hybrid)
- Reports to: Director, Engagement
- Type: Permanent, Full-time (Management level)
Core purpose:
- Lead integrated marketing and communications strategy
- Strengthen brand visibility and public engagement
- Support fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and alumni relations
- Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms and audiences
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Branding
- Develop and implement multi-channel marketing and communications strategies
- Strengthen corporate communications and brand visibility
- Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms and regions
- Align communications with organizational mission and values
Digital Marketing & Campaigns
- Oversee digital strategy including:
- Website management
- SEO and SEM
- Social media campaigns
- Manage email marketing:
- Campaign planning
- Segmentation
- A/B testing
- Performance tracking
- Improve audience engagement through data-driven campaigns
Content Development & Production
- Produce and manage communication materials:
- Newsletters
- Brochures
- Annual reports
- Social media assets
- Digital advertisements
- Ensure content is:
- Accessible
- High quality
- On-brand across audiences
- Write, edit, and translate content (English & French)
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
- Work closely with internal teams to align messaging strategies
- Support SHARE program communications and audience engagement
- Build relationships with:
- Media outlets
- Community partners
- External stakeholders
- Support alumni engagement and donor stewardship strategies
Events & Public Engagement
- Coordinate events such as:
- Fundraisers
- Awareness campaigns
- Community outreach activities
- Support public engagement initiatives tied to organizational goals
Analytics & Reporting
- Track communications performance using analytics tools
- Produce monthly reports for leadership
- Identify key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Provide recommendations to improve engagement and reach
Leadership & Operations
- Manage a small communications team
- Oversee budgets and vendor relationships
- Ensure cost-effective communications delivery
- Maintain processes for collaboration and workflow efficiency
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–5 years of experience in marketing or communications
- Preferably experience in nonprofit or international development sector
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English and French (written and spoken)
Technical Skills
- Digital marketing expertise:
- SEO / SEM
- Social media management
- Email marketing tools
- CRM systems (e.g., Raisers Edge)
- CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress)
- Graphic design tools:
- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Canva
