Research Experts and Media Consultants Invited to Apply

The International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) is seeking qualified firms or consultant teams for a remote consultancy opportunity to conduct a Content Analysis of Public-Interest Media in Syria.

The assignment will evaluate the performance, quality, and impact of a new cohort of ten media grantees operating in or reporting on Syria during an 18-month grant period beginning in late September/early October 2026.

This opportunity is suitable for experienced researchers, media analysts, and consultancy teams with expertise in journalism research, media monitoring, conflict-sensitive reporting, and content analysis.

About the Assignment

The selected consultant or team will conduct systematic and comparable content analysis to assess how IFPIM-supported media organisations fulfil their public-interest role.

The research will examine:

• Journalism quality and professional standards.
• Responsible and conflict-sensitive reporting practices.
• Media themes and narratives.
• Gender representation in reporting.
• Audience sentiment and engagement trends.

The findings will help IFPIM understand how independent media contributes to informed public discussion and responsible journalism in complex environments.

Key Responsibilities

The consultant or firm will be responsible for:

Conducting Media Content Analysis

The assignment will involve:

• Developing a research methodology and analytical framework.
• Reviewing media content from selected grantees.
• Identifying key themes, trends, and narratives.
• Comparing reporting approaches across different media organisations.
• Assessing content quality and professional standards.

Evaluating Journalism Practices

The analysis will review:

• Accuracy and credibility of reporting.

• Conflict-sensitive approaches.

• Overall contribution to public-interest media.

Gender and Sentiment Analysis

The consultant will also support additional analysis focused on:

Additional experience in audience engagement analysis and wider media ecosystem research will be considered an advantage.
