IDMC Knowledge Products Consultant: Remote Humanitarian Communications Consultancy|Apply by 31 Aug 2026

The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) is inviting qualified professionals to apply for a Knowledge Products Consultant opportunity focused on data storytelling, evidence dissemination, digital content and knowledge uptake. This home-based consultancy offers an opportunity for communications, content and knowledge-management professionals to work with evidence on internal displacement and help translate complex research into accessible products for policymakers, humanitarian organisations, development actors and other stakeholders.
About the Consultancy
IDMC is recognised as an authoritative source of data and analysis on internal displacement. Its work involves monitoring displacement situations worldwide, producing quantitative estimates and developing research and analysis to inform policy and operational decisions. The organisation disseminates its evidence through publications, digital platforms and the Global Internal Displacement Database.
The Knowledge Products Consultant will contribute to two main workstreams. The first focuses on data storytelling, evidence dissemination and digital content, while the second focuses on project evidence dissemination and knowledge uptake. The consultant will work with communications, research and project teams to transform complex data, analytical findings and technical outputs into engaging and accessible products.
Key Responsibilities
A major part of the assignment will involve supporting IDMC’s digital communications and content production. The consultant will help design, produce and disseminate content across websites, newsletters, social media and other digital channels. This includes translating complex data, modelling outputs, research and analysis into clear and compelling materials for different audiences.
The role also includes producing multimedia and visual content such as graphics, infographics, animations and short-form videos. The consultant may draft articles, explainers, stories and other editorial products, while also supporting content calendars and reporting on dissemination activities and audience engagement.
Under the second workstream, the consultant will help turn project evidence, findings, impact assessments and lessons learned into practical knowledge products. These may include policy briefs, evidence summaries, country briefs and presentations designed for policymakers, government authorities, humanitarian actors, development organisations, donors and regional stakeholders.
The consultant will also support webinars, technical briefings, learning events, policy dialogues and stakeholder engagement activities. In addition, they will contribute to the project’s final dissemination and knowledge-sharing activities, including messaging frameworks, evidence summaries, briefing materials, speaker packs and post-event products.
Major Deliverables
The consultancy involves a substantial range of potential outputs. Across the first workstream, deliverables may include up to five campaigns or content packages, 20 website articles or editorial products, 10 newsletters or digital updates, 10 multimedia products and 50 social media and digital dissemination assets.
The second workstream may include up to 10 evidence dissemination packages, 10 policy or thematic briefs, eight country-focused evidence and learning products, 40 visual knowledge products and 10 webinar, briefing or stakeholder engagement packages. The consultant may also produce up to 15 presentation decks and supporting materials.
The final project event will require a comprehensive package covering preparation, delivery and follow-up. This includes an event narrative and messaging framework, an evidence synthesis package, stakeholder materials, speaker briefing packs, presentation decks, outreach materials, post-event summaries and lessons-learned products.
Who Can Apply?
The opportunity is suited to professionals with a university degree in communications, journalism, public relations, digital media, international relations, development studies, public policy or a related field. Applicants should have at least three years of relevant professional experience in content development, digital engagement, knowledge management, evidence dissemination or policy communications.
Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills are essential. Candidates should be able to translate complex information, data and analytical findings into accessible and engaging products for different audiences. Experience producing knowledge products, policy briefs, dissemination materials and evidence-based content is also required.
Visual communication skills are another important requirement. Experience with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Flourish, CapCut or similar platforms is specifically identified. Experience creating infographics, data visualisations and other visual knowledge products is also valuable.
Experience working with international organisations, NGOs, humanitarian or development actors is highly desirable. Familiarity with displacement, humanitarian, climate, development or policy issues is considered an asset, while fluency in English is required.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out
This consultancy could be particularly relevant to communications professionals who enjoy turning complex research and evidence into clear, engaging stories. Rather than focusing solely on traditional communications, the assignment combines digital content, data storytelling, policy communications, visual communication and knowledge management.
For professionals with experience in humanitarian or development communications, it provides an opportunity to contribute to work focused on internal displacement while producing materials intended for a wide range of decision-makers and operational stakeholders.
With the deadline approaching, eligible candidates should prepare their CV, portfolio, references and financial proposal carefully and submit a complete application before 31 August 2026.
