IDinsight is seeking an Associate Director/Director – East and Southern Africa to help shape the organisation’s regional strategy, lead high-impact programmes, and strengthen evidence-based decision-making across governments, NGOs, foundations, and development partners. The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with a hybrid work arrangement.

Professionals with extensive experience in international development, research, data, monitoring and evaluation, public policy, or social impact leadership are encouraged to apply.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Regional Director, the Associate Director/Director will help drive IDinsight’s strategy and programme delivery across East and Southern Africa. The successful candidate will enjoy significant autonomy while leading high-impact initiatives aligned with the organisation’s mission of reducing poverty through better evidence and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Lead High-Impact Programmes

The successful candidate will:

  • Design and lead strategic initiatives that use data and evidence to improve social outcomes.
  • Develop partnerships and secure funding for impactful programmes.
  • Deliver research and advisory services aligned with IDinsight’s mission.
  • Help governments and development organisations make evidence-informed decisions.

Lead and Mentor Teams

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ensuring high standards of research quality and ethics.
  • Mentoring managers and team members.
  • Overseeing project delivery, budgets, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Creating an inclusive and supportive working environment.

Influence Policy and Thought Leadership

The Director will:

  • Publish articles and knowledge products.
  • Speak at conferences and policy forums.
  • Build trusted relationships with governments, foundations, and nonprofit leaders.
  • Promote evidence-based reforms across development sectors.

Support Organisational Strategy

The role also includes:

  • Contributing to regional and global strategic planning.
  • Supporting recruitment and staff development.
  • Strengthening organisational systems and culture.
  • Upholding IDinsight’s mission and values.

  • Experience working with governments, nonprofits, foundations, or development partners.
  • Strong expertise in monitoring and evaluation, research, surveys, data systems, or machine learning.
