The South Asia Regional Programme is seeking an experienced professional to provide strategic and operational support to the Regional Director.
Position Overview
The Executive Assistant to the Regional Director (EARD) will play a central role in strengthening programme coordination, monitoring organizational strategies, supporting emergency preparedness, and improving operational effectiveness.
The position is categorized as an expert-level senior role and will operate from one of three locations depending on the candidate’s nationality:
- Dhaka, Bangladesh
- Kathmandu, Nepal
- Noida, India
The contract duration is one year from the joining date.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Monitoring and Organizational Support
The Executive Assistant will support implementation of HI strategies and policies by:
- Monitoring compliance with organizational policies
- Supporting internal control systems and reporting mechanisms
- Identifying operational challenges and recommending solutions
- Supporting investigations related to safeguarding, fraud, abuse, and misconduct when required
- Maintaining dashboards and monitoring tools
- Supporting the Regional Director with situation reports and strategic updates
Capacity Building and Staff Development
The role will contribute to strengthening leadership and operational capacity across HI programmes.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting project management and operational capacity development
- Identifying training needs among teams
- Contributing to training development and facilitation
- Mentoring senior operational staff
- Supporting recruitment and performance reviews of senior positions
- Promoting organizational culture, learning, and knowledge sharing
Emergency Preparedness and Humanitarian Response
A major component of the role involves strengthening regional emergency readiness.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead implementation of regional emergency preparedness action plans
- Support country teams during emergency responses
- Maintain humanitarian early warning systems
- Monitor minimum preparedness measures
- Improve emergency response frameworks and partnerships
- Coordinate information sharing with headquarters teams
- Provide temporary emergency operational leadership when required
Regional Coordination and Representation
The EARD will work closely with the Regional Director and internal stakeholders to improve communication and coordination.
Key duties include:
- Supporting implementation of HI’s operational strategy
- Supporting the planned South Asia and Southeast Asia programme merger process
- Developing regional knowledge products such as:
- Fact sheets
- Infographics
- Videos
- Position papers
- Learning documents
- Organizing coordination meetings and regional workshops
- Representing the regional programme during meetings when requested
Short-Term Management Responsibilities
The successful candidate may also:
- Act as interim Country Manager during leadership gaps
- Represent the Regional Director when delegated
- Manage confidential information appropriately
- Provide operational support during critical periods
Required Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should ideally have:
- A Master’s degree or equivalent in:
- Social sciences
- International relations
- Politics
- Economics
- Engineering
- Related fields
Professional requirements include:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar senior role
- Demonstrated fundraising experience
- Previous experience with international humanitarian organizations or global companies
- Understanding of humanitarian principles and disability inclusion
- Knowledge of emergency response and development programming
- Experience in risk management, donor relations, and programme strategy
