Director of Learning, Monitoring & Evaluation at HERA: Remote US Opportunity | Salary Up to $135,000 | Apply by September 25, 2026

HERA is hiring a Director of Learning, Monitoring & Evaluation (LME) to lead the development of systems that measure, understand, and communicate the organization’s impact. This is a senior-level remote opportunity for an experienced professional interested in climate adaptation, gender equality, international development, and evidence-based programming.
The position is full-time and remote within the United States, with a salary of USD $130,000 to $135,000 per year. Applications are being accepted until September 25, 2026.
About HERA
Established in 2023, HERA is a global non-governmental organization focused on protecting the health, income, and dignity of women living and working on the frontlines of extreme heat.
The organization was co-founded by four women leaders who recognized the disproportionate effects of extreme heat on women and vulnerable communities. HERA works with local partners to develop practical and lasting solutions shaped by the experiences and needs of marginalized women.
Within its first two years, HERA raised more than $20 million to expand its programs and impact. Its work currently spans eight countries: Sierra Leone, Pakistan, Ghana, Liberia, Thailand, India, Kenya, and the United States.
About the Director of Learning, Monitoring & Evaluation Role
The Director of Learning, Monitoring & Evaluation will report to the Chief Program Officer (CPO) and play a central role in building HERA’s evidence base as the organization grows.
Rather than treating monitoring and evaluation primarily as a compliance function, HERA approaches LME as a collaborative process involving partners and communities. The successful candidate will help strengthen this approach by developing systems that generate credible evidence while ensuring that women’s voices, experiences, participation, and agency remain central.
The Director will help translate complex programs and outcomes into useful evidence for internal decision-making, funder reporting, partnerships, communications, and wider sector learning.
This is also a growth-phase leadership role. HERA’s systems and structures are still developing, so the Director will need to balance immediate organizational needs with longer-term ambitions.
Key Responsibilities
The Director will work closely with program and organizational leadership to refine and implement HERA’s Theory of Change and organizational LME framework.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing indicators and a phased LME roadmap.
- Designing quantitative and qualitative data collection tools.
- Establishing data management and quality assurance processes.
- Building systems for collecting, analyzing, and sharing evidence across countries and partners.
- Supporting small nonprofit partners with practical evaluation approaches.
- Analyzing data and turning findings into actionable insights.
- Facilitating learning sessions, reflection processes, and feedback loops.
- Supporting donor proposals and reporting with evidence strategies and indicators.
- Developing LME budget requirements within funding proposals.
- Contributing to research projects, academic partnerships, and field-building initiatives.
- Working with Communications to develop compelling impact narratives.
- Strengthening HERA’s position as a credible voice on women-centered climate and heat solutions.
The role will also involve collaboration with Programs, Finance, Operations, Development, and Communications teams.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should generally have 10 or more years of experience in learning, monitoring, evaluation, or a related field, particularly within complex, multi-partner or multi-country environments.
Experience in international development, climate adaptation, gender equality, or the Global South is strongly preferred.
Candidates should have experience operationalizing Theories of Change and LME frameworks, developing mixed-method data collection systems, maintaining data quality, and working with organizations that have different levels of evaluation capacity.
Strong written and verbal English skills are required. The successful candidate should also be comfortable working in an evolving organization where systems are still being developed.
HERA is seeking someone who can balance technical rigor with practical implementation and build the capacity of teams and partners rather than keeping expertise centralized.
