Sacred Valley Health (SVH) is a small, grassroots public health organization based in rural Peru seeking a bilingual Development Officer to manage fundraising, grant writing, donor stewardship, and reporting. Position Overview
The Development Officer will report directly to the Executive Director and collaborate closely with the Fund Development Committee of the Board. The role combines grant writing, donor communications, fundraising campaigns, and reporting responsibilities. Candidates must be fluent in English and Spanish, able to translate programmatic and financial information from Spanish into clear, compelling English narratives suitable for U.S.-based funders.
This position requires a high degree of organization, professionalism, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, leadership, and donors.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Writing and Management
- Communicate regularly with the Executive Director and program staff to understand funding needs and program initiatives.
- Research potential grant opportunities, focusing on U.S.-based foundations and English-language applications.
- Draft grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and other funding documents using program plans and budgets provided by SVH staff.
- Maintain a grants tracker to monitor deadlines, prospects, and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate grant reporting by gathering input from program managers, M&E staff, and finance teams, synthesizing data into funder-compliant reports.
Donor Stewardship
- Maintain and update the donor database (Little Green Light).
- Draft quarterly donor communications, including program updates and fundraising emails.
- Track donations, send acknowledgments, and manage charitable giving receipts.
- Collaborate with the Fund Development Committee to develop strategies for donor engagement and retention.
Fundraising Support
- Work with the Executive Director and Fund Development Committee to plan and support mid-year and end-of-year fundraising campaigns.
- Support individual giving campaigns and other fundraising initiatives that align with SVH’s mission.
Communication and Collaboration
- Coordinate with SVH’s social media and website team to share news and updates.
- Collaborate closely with leadership, finance, and program staff to ensure accurate alignment between programmatic narratives and financial documentation.
- Support organizational learning by incorporating monitoring and evaluation (M&E) outcomes into grant reporting.
Required Qualifications
- Native or bilingual fluency in English, with professional-level writing skills for U.S.-based grant proposals, donor communications, and reports.
- Advanced professional proficiency in Spanish, sufficient to work effectively with Peru-based staff.
- Demonstrated experience in grant prospecting, research, and writing, including translating programmatic and financial information.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with close attention to deadlines and detail.
- Proficiency with donor databases or CRM systems (experience with Little Green Light preferred) and Google Workspace.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and accountability in handling sensitive organizational and donor information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with international or cross-cultural nonprofit organizations, especially in Latin America.
- Knowledge of U.S. foundations, private, and family philanthropic landscape.
- Experience planning and coordinating individual donor campaigns, including mid-year and end-of-year appeals.
- Familiarity with budgets and financial reporting aligned with grant narratives.
- Experience incorporating M&E data into grant reports.
