The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD), a leading organization in mediation and conflict resolution, is seeking an experienced Advisor for Syria.
This role offers a unique opportunity for a skilled professional to support HD’s work toward the peaceful resolution of the Syrian crisis, focusing particularly on Southern Syria and other strategic areas.
The position is flexible within Europe or the MENA region, with the starting date of 15 January 2026, subject to funding confirmation, and the contract running until 31 December 2026.

Role Overview
The Advisor will provide strategic guidance and operational support for HD’s projects in Syria, with responsibilities including:
- Advising HD projects in Syria, with a particular focus on Southern regions and other relevant geographic areas.
- Developing and maintaining networks with local and non-state actors, including local councils, security forces, armed groups, criminal networks, and familial or tribal networks, with preference for links to Druze actors.
- Conducting comprehensive conflict analysis and mapping to understand local governance, leadership structures, and decision-making processes.
- Monitoring political and conflict developments and analyzing their implications for HD projects.
- Engaging local actors to facilitate dialogue, address disputes, and identify opportunities for collaborative solutions.
- Supporting the organization, facilitation, and reporting of HD meetings.
- Representing HD in bilateral meetings with Syrian stakeholders, international actors, and donors.
- Preparing analytical reports and oral presentations for the HD team.
- Traveling regularly within Syria and potentially to other Middle East locations as required.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will combine political acumen, local knowledge, and mediation experience. Specific qualifications include:
- Deep knowledge of Syria, particularly Southern Syria, including local governance, tribal, religious, and armed group actors.
- Political connections and networks among local actors relevant to HD’s objectives.
- Minimum five years’ experience in Syria or related conflict-affected areas, with a strong focus on conflict resolution and humanitarian issues.
- A relevant university degree in international relations, political science, mediation, or a related field.
- Commitment to HD’s ethical standards, including confidentiality and professional integrity.
- Excellent Arabic skills (native or equivalent) and fluent English; proficiency in an additional Middle Eastern language is a significant asset.
- Ability to work independently, align with management priorities, and demonstrate strong organizational skills to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated security awareness and strict adherence to security protocols.
- Effective teamwork skills, including the ability to manage conflict constructively and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively in multicultural team environments.
