GoodPower Is Hiring: Senior Researcher & Computational Social Scientist – Remote Roles Paying Up to $140,000

GoodPower is expanding its research and data capabilities and is seeking experienced professionals for two high-level remote opportunities in the United States: Senior Researcher, Mixed Methods and Computational Social Scientist, Applied AI.

These positions offer opportunities to work at the intersection of climate, energy, behavioral science, artificial intelligence, data, public opinion, and decarbonization. Salaries range from $100,000 to $140,000 annually, depending on the position and experience.

About GoodPower

GoodPower is a global organization focused on unlocking the economic potential of decarbonization through research, innovation, strategic communications, and emerging technology.

Its work aims to advance affordable and reliable energy, expand economic opportunity, strengthen energy security, build healthier and more resilient communities, and accelerate the transition to a modern low-carbon economy.

The organization combines data, digital media, behavioral research, AI, and public engagement to understand attitudes and behaviors and develop scalable strategies supporting renewable energy, electric transportation, regenerative agriculture, energy storage, and other clean-energy technologies.

Senior Researcher, Mixed Methods

The Senior Researcher, Mixed Methods will join GoodPower’s Good Data Lab and lead rigorous applied research examining how attitudes, social contexts, communication, and behavior influence decarbonization.

The researcher will develop original studies across areas such as renewable energy, electric vehicle adoption, public opinion, civic participation, misinformation, persuasion, agriculture, and climate communication.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Researcher will:

  • Develop original research questions and hypotheses.
  • Design randomized controlled trials, field experiments, survey experiments, and quasi-experimental studies.
  • Conduct quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research.
  • Develop measures of attitudes, behavior, engagement, and program impact.
  • Evaluate whether interventions should be improved, expanded, scaled, or discontinued.
  • Work with program, communications, advocacy, organizing, and digital teams.
  • Collaborate with academic researchers and external research partners.
  • Translate complex findings into reports, recommendations, presentations, and other materials.

Senior Researcher Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent advanced research training in psychology, political science, sociology, communication, behavioral science, public policy, evaluation, or a related social science field.

Candidates should have strong experience in applied social or behavioral research, experimental and quasi-experimental methods, statistical analysis, causal inference, and qualitative or mixed-methods research.

Experience with R, Python, Stata, SAS, SPSS, or similar research software is expected.

Three or more years of research experience after doctoral study is preferred.

Senior Researcher Salary and Benefits

The position pays $100,000–$120,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid vacation, paid holidays, sick leave, a 403(b) employer contribution or match, education reimbursement, healthcare spending options, a monthly stipend, charitable giving benefits, paid parental leave, and an eight-week sabbatical after five years.

Computational Social Scientist, Applied AI

The Computational Social Scientist will also join GoodPower’s Good Data Lab, focusing on the use of large-scale data, computational social science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to study energy, climate, politics, and human behavior.

The role is particularly suited to researchers who can combine programming and data science with rigorous social-science research.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Identify and analyze large public and proprietary datasets.
  • Develop scalable computational research methods.
  • Work with behavioral, administrative, geospatial, survey, political, digital, and other datasets.
  • Use large language models and computational text-analysis techniques.
  • Develop reproducible analytical workflows.
  • Conduct model validation, error analysis, reliability testing, and bias assessment.
  • Develop original research on decarbonization, public opinion, political participation, and behavior change.
  • Collaborate with research and program teams.
  • Present complex findings through clear visualizations, recommendations, reports, and presentations.

Computational Social Scientist Qualifications

Candidates should have a graduate degree in computational social science, computer science, political science, sociology, psychology, economics, statistics, data science, communication, or another relevant quantitative or computational discipline.

Strong Python programming skills and experience developing reproducible analytical workflows are required.

Applicants should also have experience with large, complex datasets and computational methods such as:

  • Supervised machine learning
  • Topic modeling
  • Clustering
  • Embeddings
  • Dictionary-based text analysis
  • Natural language processing
  • Large language model APIs

Knowledge of machine-learning and LLM evaluation, statistical reasoning, and observational, predictive, and causal analysis is important. Experience with geospatial or satellite data is also desirable.

Computational Social Scientist Salary and Benefits

The Computational Social Scientist position offers an annual salary of $120,000–$140,000, depending on experience.

The role includes the same broad benefits package, including health insurance, paid leave, retirement contributions, education reimbursement, charitable giving support, healthcare spending options, a monthly stipend, paid parental leave, and an eight-week sabbatical after five years.

Location and Application Requirements

Both positions are remote-based in the United States. They are full-time, experienced-level positions, and some travel will be required for departmental meetings, staff retreats, and other events.

Applicants for either position should be prepared to submit a resume, cover letter, writing sample, education information, references, desired salary, and earliest start date.

The writing sample should demonstrate research and analytical ability and may include a published paper, report, policy brief, or similar work.

How to Apply
