Young advocates passionate about education, migration, and youth empowerment are invited to apply for the Education Thematic Focal Point volunteer position with the Migration Youth & Children Platform (MYCP). This fully remote opportunity offers emerging leaders the chance to influence global education policies and advocate for the rights of migrant and refugee children and young people.

The role sits within MYCP’s #DELIVER unit and provides a unique platform to collaborate with international stakeholders, contribute to evidence-based advocacy, and help shape policies that promote inclusive and equitable education worldwide.

About the Role

The Education Thematic Focal Point leads advocacy efforts related to education within MYCP’s #DELIVER unit. The successful volunteer will coordinate campaigns, policy positions, and advocacy initiatives while serving as a bridge between youth constituencies, MYCP’s research teams, and external partners.

Working closely with the Director of Advocacy & Campaigns, the focal point will ensure that education advocacy is inclusive, evidence-based, and centered on the voices of migrant and refugee youth.

This is a fully remote volunteer position, requiring approximately 5–7 hours per week, making it suitable for students, young professionals, and emerging policy leaders seeking international advocacy experience.

Key Responsibilities

The Education Thematic Focal Point will play a leading role in advancing MYCP’s education advocacy agenda.

Lead Education Advocacy

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing advocacy strategies on education-related issues.
  • Drafting policy briefs, advocacy interventions, and speaking points.
  • Representing MYCP and youth perspectives during international meetings and policy discussions.
  • Promoting inclusive and equitable education for migrant and refugee children and youth.

Collaborate Across MYCP Units

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with the #THINK unit to ensure advocacy is informed by research and evidence.
  • Support methodologies that increase youth engagement in partnership with the #ENGAGE unit.
  • Contribute education-related insights to MYCP’s broader programmes and initiatives.

Develop Campaigns and Communications

Responsibilities also include:

  • Designing advocacy campaigns focused on education.
  • Producing communication materials and awareness initiatives.
  • Collaborating with other Thematic Focal Points on cross-cutting advocacy priorities.

Build Strategic Partnerships

The volunteer will:

  • Establish relationships with governments, UN agencies, NGOs, and youth organizations.
  • Work alongside MYCP International Representatives to strengthen education advocacy.
  • Support collaboration with global stakeholders working in education and migration.

Support Advocacy Officers

Additional duties include:

  • Supervising and mentoring Advocacy & Campaigns Officers.
  • Providing guidance on education-related advocacy initiatives.
  • Supporting collaborative planning and implementation of campaigns.

Person Specification

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old.
  • Have experience in advocacy, policy engagement, or campaigning.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of migration governance, human rights, or global policy processes.
  • Possess knowledge of migration and migration policy, with lived experience considered an asset.
  • Have excellent writing, communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Be fluent in English; additional UN languages are desirable.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, reliability, and initiative.
  • Be committed to youth leadership, inclusion, and MYCP’s mission.
