About the Billion Acts of Peace Changemaker Fellowship
The Billion Acts of Peace Changemaker Fellowship brings together young leaders from different countries and sectors who are working to address important social challenges.
Fellows will work within one of the programme’s 10 Key Issue Areas, developing their leadership abilities while strengthening projects that are already creating positive change.
The fellowship combines mentorship, community, leadership development, project funding and global networking, giving participants an opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.
Sessions are designed to accommodate participants across different time zones, making the fellowship accessible to young changemakers around the world.
What Does the Fellowship Offer?
Year-Long Mentorship
Fellows will participate in monthly learning and mentorship sessions designed to build the skills and competencies needed to create sustainable impact.
The programme draws on the experience of Nobel Laureates and other prominent changemakers, giving participants exposure to valuable lessons in leadership and social change.
Up to US$5,000 in Project Funding
Selected fellows may receive up to US$5,000 to strengthen, develop or expand their existing peacebuilding or social-impact projects.
The funding is intended for initiatives that are already being developed rather than ideas that have not yet moved into action.
Global Changemaker Network
Participants will join an international community that can include other Billion Acts of Peace Fellows, PeaceJam participants, nonprofit professionals, business professionals, network members and Nobel Laureates.
This network can provide opportunities for collaboration, learning and connections beyond the fellowship itself.
International Opportunities
Fellows may also have opportunities to participate in PeaceJam conferences and virtual events and connect with global opportunities that can support their projects and leadership journeys.
Who Can Apply?
The fellowship is aimed at young adults who meet the following criteria:
- Are between 18 and 30 years old
- Are already leading or actively building a project, initiative or organisation
- Are working in peace, justice, equity or social change
- Address one of the 10 Key Issue Areas
- Have an emerging nonprofit, grassroots initiative, activist project, social enterprise or mission-driven business
- Have progressed beyond the idea stage and are somewhere between starting and gaining traction
- Are willing to participate actively in the fellowship community
- Are committed to developing their work but have not yet significantly scaled their project
The programme is particularly relevant for young leaders who have demonstrated action and are looking for additional support to take their work to the next level.
Six PeaceJam Competencies
The fellowship focuses on six core competencies:
- Positive Power & Purpose – Understanding how personal strengths and purpose can create positive change.
- Creating Inclusive Communities – Building collaborative and supportive communities.
- Compassionate Leadership – Developing leadership based on empathy, justice and compassion.
- Peacebuilding – Building skills to address conflict and promote peaceful communities.
- Global Citizenship & Interconnectedness – Understanding the connections between people, communities and the planet.
- Change Agent – Taking action and becoming an active force for positive transformation.
How Applications Are Assessed
Applications are assessed primarily on substance and fit, rather than polished writing or English-language ability.
Applicants are encouraged to communicate authentically and demonstrate the actual work they are doing, their motivations and their vision.
The organisers specifically encourage applicants not to rely on generative AI when completing their applications, because they want to hear directly from applicants in their own voices.
