Through health literacy, preventative health education, and community partnerships, OGT aims to create sustainable pathways toward better health outcomes.
The new MEL & Data Specialist position comes at an important stage in the organization’s growth.
About the SHARE Programme
The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting OGT’s School Health Agency, Resources, and Education (SHARE) Program.
Since 2023, SHARE has trained teachers in Kenya to serve as School Health Officers. These teachers receive practical training in areas including basic health screening, nutrition, menstrual health, oral health, wound and burn care, and other essential health topics.
The programme has already trained 675 School Health Officers across 172 schools in Kenya, reaching approximately 66,000 students, 3,235 school staff, and an estimated 251,000 community members.
OGT is now preparing for wider implementation through a new partnership with an academic and research institution in Kenya, while also exploring pilot programmes outside Kenya.
This expansion creates a need for stronger data, evaluation, learning, and evidence systems.
What Will the MEL & Data Specialist Do?
The successful candidate will lead the development and management of MEL and research systems supporting SHARE in Kenya and future international programmes.
Responsibilities will include establishing a standardized MEL framework and indicator system, developing data collection and management processes, strengthening data quality assurance, and creating reporting systems capable of supporting programme expansion into additional countries.
The specialist will also establish evaluation and research protocols in collaboration with Kenyan academic partners. They will analyze and interpret both quantitative and qualitative programme data and produce high-quality evaluation reports for funders, partners, and internal stakeholders.
Another major part of the position will involve turning programme evidence into useful knowledge. The specialist will contribute to manuscripts, conference abstracts, presentations, and potentially peer-reviewed publications.
Capacity Building and Team Leadership
This is not simply a data-analysis position. The successful candidate will also help build OGT’s internal MEL capacity.
The specialist will manage a support team consisting of approximately 2–4 MEL interns and volunteer analysts, facilitate team meetings, monitor progress against work plans, and train programme and field teams on MEL tools and reporting practices.
There may also be opportunities to mentor and supervise Kenya-based Master’s and PhD candidates working on MEL activities.
Because this is a newly created position, the successful candidate will have considerable autonomy to help shape OGT’s MEL function and determine how the organization measures impact, manages data, learns from implementation, and uses evidence to improve its programmes.
Who Should Apply?
Applicants should have a Master’s degree or higher in global health, epidemiology, monitoring and evaluation, statistics, or a relevant discipline.
Candidates are expected to have at least five years of professional experience monitoring and evaluating global health initiatives.
Strong expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods, survey development, data analysis, data quality assessment, reporting, and MEL system development is essential.
Applicants should also have strong data-management capabilities, including experience working with databases, data-collection platforms, and data-visualization tools.
Experience working with marginalized populations and minors, including knowledge of research ethics and appropriate protections, will be important for this role.
Strong academic and professional writing skills are also required, particularly experience contributing to publications, conference presentations, evaluation reports, or similar outputs.
Compensation and Remote Work
The position is part-time and fully remote, with applicants able to work from anywhere in the world.
OGT expects compensation to be determined according to the successful candidate’s experience and mutually agreed weekly commitment. The anticipated annualized compensation range is US$30,000–US$70,000.
