One Good Turn Global Health is seeking a Development Director (Part-Time) to provide strategic leadership in fundraising, donor engagement, and grant development. This is a remote, US-based role supporting global health programming across multiple countries, with a strong focus on expanding sustainable funding for education-based health interventions.

One Good Turn Global Health (OGT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving global health outcomes through practical medical education and training for health workers and community leaders in resource-limited settings.

Since 2016, OGT has delivered 70 medical education projects across 13 countries, focusing on scalable training programs that strengthen community-level healthcare systems.

A key initiative is the SHARE Program (School Health Agency, Resources, and Education) in Kenya, which trains teachers to serve as School Health Officers. The program has trained 450 teachers across 111 schools, reaching over 43,500 students with essential health education and services.

Role Summary

The Development Director will play a senior strategic role focused on fundraising growth, donor strategy, and institutional partnerships. Working closely with the Executive Director, the role is responsible for expanding revenue streams, strengthening donor relationships, and building a long-term financial foundation for program scale-up.

This is a leadership-level position requiring both strategic vision and hands-on fundraising expertise.

Key Responsibilities

The role is divided into three major functional areas: donor strategy, grant development, and development leadership.

Major Gifts & Donor Strategy

  • Lead cultivation and stewardship of major donors and institutional funders
  • Design and implement a long-term fundraising strategy aligned with organizational goals
  • Manage a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects
  • Attend donor events, conferences, and networking opportunities
  • Strengthen donor engagement and retention strategies

This area represents approximately 50% of responsibilities and focuses on securing significant financial contributions to support program expansion.

Grant Strategy & Management

  • Identify and prioritize funding opportunities from foundations and government agencies
  • Lead the development of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports
  • Build and maintain relationships with institutional funders
  • Collaborate with leadership to align funding proposals with program goals

This area accounts for approximately 40% of responsibilities, with emphasis on securing long-term institutional funding.

Development Leadership

  • Partner with senior leadership to align fundraising and program priorities
  • Mentor development staff and provide strategic guidance
  • Review and strengthen donor-facing communications and fundraising materials
  • Support consistency in messaging across campaigns and reports

This leadership component represents approximately 10% of the role and focuses on internal capacity building.

Required Qualifications

Candidates are expected to bring strong fundraising expertise and leadership experience in nonprofit or global development contexts.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred in public health, international development, nonprofit management, or related field

Experience

  • 5–7+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Proven success in securing major gifts and institutional funding
  • Demonstrated grant writing experience in global health or development sectors
  • Experience managing or mentoring development staff
  • Strong track record of donor relationship management

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate program impact into compelling donor narratives
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and fundraising tools
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, part-time capacity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing network within global health or development funding communities
  • Experience working with international donors or foundations
  • Background in human rights or global health programming
  • Demonstrated ability to increase organizational revenue streams

Compensation and Structure

  • Part-time role (approximately 20 hours per week)
  • Compensation: To be determined based on experience
  • Remote position (United States-based)
  • Reports directly to the Executive Director
  • No benefits due to part-time structure

The organization anticipates that the Development Director will contribute to significant revenue growth over a two-year period, with a target increase of approximately $500,000.
