About the Glisten Research Opportunity
The selected Quantitative Research Assistant will join Glisten’s Research team and contribute to analysis of the 2027 National School Climate Survey. The study examines school climate, culture and the experiences of LGBTQIA2S+ students aged 13 and older attending middle and high schools in the United States. Its findings are intended to provide useful evidence for educators, researchers, advocates and policymakers.

Key Responsibilities
A major part of the position involves developing and implementing quantitative data analysis plans. The successful contractor will select appropriate statistical methods and tests based on research questions and the characteristics of the available survey data.
The role will also involve data processing and cleaning, including assessing data quality, addressing missing information and merging multiple large datasets. Maintaining accurate documentation will be important, with the researcher contributing to data dictionaries and codebooks throughout the project.
Strong statistical programming skills are central to the position. The successful applicant will be expected to code and run statistical analyses in R, identifying trends, relationships and patterns in survey data. The work may include longitudinal analysis and additional quantitative analysis informed by qualitative research findings.
Skills and Experience
Glisten is seeking candidates with strong quantitative research and statistical abilities, particularly practical experience using R. Desired areas of statistical expertise include multivariate regression, power analysis, factor analysis, structural equation modeling, longitudinal analysis and survey data analysis. Experience working with large datasets is also important.
Applicants should also have proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience handling large datasets. Previous longitudinal or over-time analysis experience can strengthen an application. Familiarity with K–12 education or school climate research is considered an advantage, while knowledge of Qualtrics fraud detection software is an additional plus.
Beyond technical expertise, the role requires adaptability, organization, flexibility and the ability to collaborate effectively with other researchers. The contractor will work across quantitative and qualitative research teams, making communication skills particularly valuable.
Deliverables and Contract Value
The total contract is worth $8,000, divided into two payments of $4,000. The first payment will follow completion of the first phase’s deliverables, while the second will be made after the remaining work has been completed. Invoices are expected to be paid within 30 days of submission.
Expected outputs include R scripts, data-analysis documentation, an updated data dictionary or codebook, data visualizations such as tables and charts, and a written methodology and findings report. Additional analyses may also be required based on findings from focus groups and other qualitative research.
Project Timeline
The contractor is expected to be onboarded by September 17, 2026. The first phase, involving NSCS27 data cleaning and analysis, will run from September 17 to December 1, 2026.
The second phase will focus on historical NSCS datasets and longitudinal analysis from December 1, 2026, to May 14, 2027. All final deliverables are expected by May 14, 2027. Meetings are scheduled between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
