This flexible remote internship allows participants to contribute to humanitarian programmes supporting conflict-affected communities while gaining practical experience in grant development, research, donor engagement, and evidence-based programming.

About Movement in Refuge

Movement in Refuge (MiR) is an international organization using sport and movement training to improve physical and mental health among communities affected by conflict and displacement.

The organization began working in the Rohingya refugee camps along the Bangladesh–Myanmar border, one of the world’s largest refugee settlements. Through partnerships with local organizations, MiR provides safe and structured sports programmes for women, girls, men, and boys.

MiR works alongside Bangladeshi partner organization Sports for Hope and Independence (SHI) and collaborates with universities and humanitarian networks to strengthen its evidence-based approach.

As the organization grows, it is expanding its work beyond refugee communities to support host communities in Bangladesh through initiatives such as coastal and chess projects in Sonarpara and the Waves of Movement programme.

About the Internship

The Fundraising and Research Internship supports the systems behind MiR’s growth by strengthening funding opportunities, research capacity, and programme evidence.

Interns will work directly with MiR leadership on active fundraising and research priorities while developing professional skills in humanitarian operations.

Applicants can select from four specialized tracks:

• Fundraising
• Global University Outreach
• Host Community Research
• Refugee Research

Each track provides practical experience connected to MiR’s humanitarian mission.

Available Internship Tracks

1. Fundraising Track

The fundraising pathway focuses on supporting MiR’s resource mobilization efforts.

Responsibilities include:

• Researching grant opportunities from foundations, governments, and international organizations
• Supporting grant applications and donor reports
• Maintaining donor databases and fundraising trackers
• Researching potential donors, corporate partners, and sponsorship opportunities
• Supporting fundraising campaigns and events

This track is suitable for candidates interested in international development, nonprofit fundraising, public policy, business, or social impact careers.

2. Global University Outreach Track

This pathway focuses on expanding MiR’s presence among universities and student communities.

Interns will:

• Recruit future interns and volunteers through university networks
• Connect with student societies, sports clubs, and academic departments
• Promote MiR through outreach campaigns, events, and social media
• Represent the organization within academic communities

3. Host Community Research Track

The host community research pathway supports evidence collection and analysis related to communities supporting refugees in Bangladesh.

Responsibilities include:

• Conducting literature reviews on social cohesion, economic impacts, and community dynamics
• Supporting data management for the Sonarpara Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) study
• Developing surveys, interviews, and assessment tools
• Analyzing research findings for reports and proposals

4. Refugee Research Track

The refugee research pathway focuses on evidence related to displacement, mental health, and sport-based interventions.

Interns will:

• Conduct literature reviews on psychosocial well-being and gender-based violence
• Research sport-for-development approaches in displacement settings
• Develop research proposals and methodologies
• Support evidence-based funding proposals

This track is ideal for students and graduates in psychology, public health, gender studies, or related fields.

Internship Commitment

This is a flexible, primarily remote, unpaid internship.

Details include:

• 5–20 hours per week
• Minimum commitment of four months
• Flexible scheduling around academic commitments
• Opportunity for increased involvement during holidays

For research-focused tracks, MiR strongly recommends and supports a field visit to Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, providing valuable firsthand humanitarian experience.
