The role focuses on developing relationships with institutional donors, corporations and individual supporters while coordinating grant applications, fundraising campaigns and donor stewardship activities.

Key details include:

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising activities that increase the organization’s access to international funding.

One major responsibility will be prospect research. The officer will identify foundations, corporations and other potential international funding partners whose priorities align with development initiatives in Uganda.

The role also involves substantial grant writing. The contractor is expected to prepare, polish and submit high-quality grant proposals and letters of intent to potential donors.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with prospective donors.
  • Developing an international fundraising pipeline.
  • Preparing grant proposals and letters of intent.

  • Maintaining accurate donor records and application deadlines.

Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is aimed at professionals with demonstrated experience in fundraising, development or related areas.

Applicants should ideally have 2–3 years of experience in fundraising, sales, account management, community organizing or a similar field.

Candidates should also demonstrate strong writing and relationship-building abilities, particularly in donor-facing environments.

Important qualifications include:

  • Experience identifying and cultivating donors.
  • Strong grant proposal writing skills.
  • Experience preparing sponsorship materials.
  • Knowledge of donor research and prospect identification.
  • Experience with fundraising campaigns.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive donor information confidentially.
  • Strong storytelling and presentation skills.
  • Experience using donor management or CRM platforms.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Experience with platforms such as Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce NPSP or Neon CRM is considered useful.

A CFRE certification or similar professional fundraising credential may also strengthen an applicant’s profile, although it is not presented as an absolute requirement.

Language Skills and International Fundraising

The role places particular emphasis on communication and what the organization describes as linguistic flexibility.

Successful fundraisers need to communicate differently depending on the audience. Corporate donors may respond to discussions around scalability and return on investment, while foundations may prioritize measurable outcomes, evidence and financial accountability.

Individual donors, meanwhile, may respond more strongly to compelling storytelling and human impact.

Strong English-language skills are therefore important for international grant writing and donor communication. Knowledge of French or Spanish may also be advantageous for professionals working across international development contexts.

Compensation and Working Arrangement

The position is offered as a part-time independent contractor role. The contractor will be responsible for their own local taxes and insurance.

Compensation is listed at USD $100 to $800 per month, depending on expertise.

The organization states that compensation will be provided as a fixed monthly retainer rather than being tied to a percentage or commission of funds raised.

The role is fully remote and can be performed from anywhere in the world, making it potentially accessible to fundraising professionals outside Uganda.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role could be particularly interesting for professionals seeking experience in international nonprofit fundraising, grant writing and development.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to an organization’s international funding strategy while developing relationships with foundations, corporations and individual donors.

It may also suit professionals who enjoy working independently and are comfortable managing multiple fundraising activities, deadlines and donor relationships.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should review the full vacancy and submit their application through the organization’s listing on Idealist.

Applicants should be prepared to provide a PDF resume, mobile number, language information and other required application details.

The application deadline is December 31, 2026, although candidates who are interested in the opportunity may wish to apply early.
