Role Purpose and Scope

The consultancy aims to expand a pool of gender experts who can contribute to assignments in regions such as Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, and beyond. Selected professionals will provide specialized support in integrating gender perspectives into humanitarian, recovery, and development initiatives.

This is not a full-time role. Instead, consultants are engaged based on project needs, with assignments varying in duration from short to medium term.

Key Responsibilities

Consultants will be expected to deliver high-quality, gender-focused technical inputs across a range of activities, including:

  • Conducting gender analyses tailored to humanitarian and development contexts
  • Designing gender-sensitive methodologies for assessments, evaluations, and research
  • Developing data collection tools such as surveys, interviews, and focus group guides
  • Creating analytical frameworks, indicators, and gender action plans
  • Producing reports, briefs, and technical documents on gender equality and inclusion
  • Reviewing findings to ensure accurate and context-sensitive gender interpretation
  • Advising field teams on ethical and safe data collection practices
  • Delivering training sessions on gender mainstreaming and safeguarding
  • Participating in technical discussions with stakeholders and partners

Consultants are also expected to uphold strict ethical standards, including confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate a solid background in gender-related humanitarian work. Minimum requirements include:

  • At least four years of professional experience in gender-focused roles
  • Expertise in areas such as gender equality, women’s empowerment, gender-based violence (GBV), or inclusion
  • Proven experience developing gender tools, frameworks, and action plans
  • Strong involvement in evaluations, research, or monitoring assignments
  • Fluency in English with excellent writing and analytical skills
  • A relevant university degree in fields such as gender studies, social sciences, or international development

Strong time management skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines are essential due to the nature of consultancy assignments.

Preferred Profile

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Regional experience in Syria, Iraq, or Europe
  • Familiarity with humanitarian standards such as safeguarding and “Do No Harm” principles
  • Experience working with NGOs, UN agencies, or donor-funded projects
  • Ability to integrate gender across sectors like livelihoods, governance, mental health, and social cohesion
  • Prior experience facilitating training or mentoring teams

Proficiency in Arabic is also considered a significant advantage.

This consultancy operates on a flexible, assignment-based model. Being selected for the expert pool does not guarantee immediate work; instead, consultants are contacted when opportunities align with their expertise and availability.

Assignments are tailored to specific project needs, and compensation is based on agreed deliverables for each engagement.
