WTO Youth Talent Incubator Programme 2026–2027: Free Virtual Opportunity for Young Trade Professionals | Apply by 24 September

Young professionals working in government, academia, research and policy who are interested in the relationship between international trade and gender can apply for the WTO Youth Talent Incubator Programme, 2nd Edition. The programme provides an opportunity for emerging professionals to strengthen their knowledge, research capabilities and professional networks through mentorship, applied policy research and capacity-building.
The second edition will run from 12 October 2026 to 30 June 2027 and will be delivered entirely online. Participation is cost-free, making the programme accessible to eligible participants regardless of their location. Applications must be submitted by 24 September 2026.
About the WTO Youth Talent Incubator Programme
The programme builds on the legacy of the Youth Trade Summit on Gender, which brought together 50 young professionals from academia, research and government in November 2023.
Following this initiative, the first edition of the Youth Talent Incubator Programme was launched in July 2024. Over more than eleven months, participants developed their professional skills and knowledge through mentorship, applied policy research, training and networking.
The results of that first edition were presented at the WTO Informal Working Group in December 2025, demonstrating the programme’s emphasis on practical learning and policy engagement.
The second edition continues this mission by helping develop the next generation of gender-responsive trade professionals.
Focus on Trade and Gender
The WTO Youth Talent Incubator Programme is particularly relevant to young professionals interested in how trade policies and international economic systems interact with gender equality.
Participants will engage with issues at the intersection of trade and gender, while developing practical research and policy skills. The programme combines mentorship, applied research and capacity-building to help participants deepen their understanding of these interconnected areas.
The programme can therefore be valuable for professionals who want to build careers in trade policy, international development, gender-responsive policymaking, research or related fields.
Programme Format and Duration
The second edition will take place from 12 October 2026 to 30 June 2027.
Unlike programmes that require participants to travel or attend activities in person, this edition will be conducted entirely virtually. All programme activities will be delivered online.
Participation is also free of charge, allowing successful nominees to participate without programme fees.
Applicants should, however, ensure that they have reliable internet access and can commit to the programme’s activities throughout the programme period.
Who Can Apply?
The application form indicates that the programme is intended for nominees from specific institutional backgrounds.
Applicants may be nominated from a governmental institution or an academic and research institution, including research foundations, centres, think tanks and policy research settings.
The programme also requires one nomination per institution. This means institutions should carefully select the candidate they wish to nominate before submitting an application.
Candidates will be asked to provide general information including their name, age, gender, title or position, institution type, country or separate customs territory, email address and phone number.
Application Requirements
Applicants must complete several parts of the application process.
The first part requires the nominee’s general information. The second part requires a motivation letter of no more than 500 words or 4,000 characters.
The motivation statement should explain why the applicant wants to participate in the WTO Youth Talent Incubator Programme and how the opportunity aligns with their professional interests and goals.
The third part requires an endorsement letter from the nominating authority. Applicants must download the official endorsement template, have it completed and signed by both the candidate and nominating authority, and ensure it is stamped by the nominating institution.
The completed endorsement letter must then be scanned and uploaded in PDF or JPG format, with a maximum file size of 50 MB.
Applicants must also upload their CV, with a maximum file size of 10 MB.
How to Strengthen an Application
Candidates should use their motivation letter to demonstrate a genuine interest in trade and gender-related issues. They can highlight relevant academic, professional, research or policy experience and explain how participation could contribute to their future work.
A strong CV should clearly present relevant education, employment, research projects, publications, policy activities, professional development and other experiences connected to trade, gender, economics, governance or international development.
Candidates should also begin the endorsement process early because the signed and stamped letter is a mandatory part of the application.
