Crop Trust Seeks Training Consultant for Seeds for Resilience Project | Apply by 01 October 2026

The Crop Trust is seeking a qualified Training Consultant to design and deliver a practical leadership, governance and financial management training programme under the Seeds for Resilience (SFR) project. The consultancy will support genebank directors across four countries and focuses on strengthening institutional capacity, donor compliance, financial governance, risk management and implementation of audit recommendations.

The assignment offers an opportunity for an experienced training professional or consultant with expertise in financial management, institutional strengthening, public financial management, procurement, monitoring and evaluation, leadership and donor compliance.

About the Training Consultant Assignment

The Training Consultant – SFR Financial Management and Oversight Training for Genebank Directors will develop and deliver a centralized three-day training programme. The assignment is intended to help participating institutions meet donor requirements, comply with national Public Financial Management (PFM) and procurement laws, and respond effectively to audit recommendations.

The consultant will be expected to create a training programme that is practical, relevant to different country contexts and aligned with the needs of genebank directors. The training will combine leadership and governance concepts with practical financial management and oversight tools.

Key Training Areas

The programme will focus on five major areas.

The first is donor programme and compliance. Participants will develop a stronger understanding of donor requirements, reporting standards and compliance expectations. The training should also provide practical tools for aligning donor obligations with national PFM and procurement systems.

The second area is leadership and institutional strengthening. The programme will cover strategic leadership, decision-making, institutional visioning, programme design, planning and results-based management.

The third area is Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL). Participants will strengthen their capacity to design and manage MEL systems that meet donor expectations while complying with applicable national regulations.

The fourth area is financial governance and risk management. This includes financial management, budgeting, internal controls, procurement compliance, risk identification and risk mitigation.

The final area is audit findings implementation. Participants will examine donor audit findings across the four countries and learn practical approaches for implementing recommendations, addressing outstanding issues and reducing the likelihood of similar problems occurring again.

Consultant Responsibilities

The selected consultant will begin by conducting a rapid needs assessment using donor audit reports and country-specific contexts. Based on the findings, the consultant will develop a tailored curriculum aligned with national PFM and procurement legislation.

The consultant will then deliver a centralized three-day training using interactive adult-learning approaches. The programme should include practical country-specific case studies and exercises to help participants apply the concepts to real institutional situations.

Additional responsibilities include facilitating sessions on audit findings and corrective action planning, developing training materials, templates and guidance notes, and preparing a comprehensive training report.

The consultant will also be expected to incorporate participant feedback and recommendations into the final report, ensuring that the training outcomes and lessons learned are properly documented.

Who Should Apply?

This consultancy is particularly suitable for professionals with strong experience in training, financial management, institutional governance, donor compliance, public financial management, procurement, audit, risk management, leadership or monitoring and evaluation.

Candidates should be able to design and deliver practical training for senior professionals and adapt learning materials to different country and institutional contexts.

Experience working with donor-funded programmes and understanding PFM and procurement requirements would be especially relevant given the objectives of the assignment.
