Digital Platforms and Investigative Journalism Training 2026: Call for Applications

The African Centre for Research, Training and Productivity (ACRTP) has opened applications for a virtual training programme designed to help journalists and media professionals strengthen their digital skills and increase the reach and impact of investigative and public-interest journalism.

Titled “Maximising Digital Platforms: Amplifying Investigative Stories, Engaging Audiences and Unlocking Opportunities,” the training will provide participants with practical knowledge for using digital platforms more effectively to tell important stories, connect with audiences and create new professional opportunities.

The training is being organised through the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ)’s Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability (CMEDIA) Project.

Digital Journalism Training Opportunity

Digital platforms have transformed how news and investigative stories are produced, distributed and consumed. For journalists working on public-interest issues, having strong digital skills can help ensure that important investigations reach the audiences that need to see them.

The upcoming ACRTP training will focus on practical strategies for maximising digital platforms to expand journalistic reach and strengthen audience engagement.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore how digital tools can be integrated into their journalism work to increase visibility, communicate stories more effectively and potentially unlock new opportunities within the evolving media landscape.

Supporting Investigative and Public-Interest Journalism

Investigative journalism plays an important role in promoting transparency, accountability and informed public debate. However, producing a strong investigation is only part of the challenge. Journalists must also find effective ways to ensure that their work reaches relevant audiences.

Digital platforms provide opportunities to distribute investigative stories beyond traditional media channels. They can help journalists engage communities, attract new audiences and create conversations around issues affecting society.

Through this training, participants will develop practical approaches for using digital tools to strengthen the visibility and impact of their work.

Fully Virtual Training

The programme will be delivered fully online, allowing selected participants to participate without travelling to a physical training venue.

The virtual format makes the opportunity accessible to journalists and media professionals who may be working in different locations. Applicants should, however, be prepared to participate fully in the scheduled training.

The training will take place on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.
