To help address this challenge, the Global Solar Council (GSC) has announced a remote consultancy opportunity for an experienced renewable energy finance professional to develop a comprehensive Solar + Storage Finance Toolbox.

About the Consultancy

The Global Solar Council is recruiting a Finance Accelerator for Solar + Storage (FASST) Consultant to design an open-access finance toolbox that supports governments, investors, financial institutions, developers, and project sponsors involved in renewable energy investments.

The consultant will develop standardized financial documentation, technical guidance, due diligence frameworks, and risk management resources that can be applied across emerging markets.

The assignment will also involve delivering regional training workshops and collaborating with leading international organizations working in renewable energy finance.

Key Responsibilities

The selected consultant will undertake a wide range of strategic and technical activities, including:

• Develop standardized finance templates for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects.
• Prepare model Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), EPC contracts, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) agreements, and storage-related service agreements.
• Design risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and management frameworks.
• Produce comprehensive due diligence checklists covering technical, financial, commercial, legal, and environmental aspects.
• Create technical guidance notes for financing both short-duration and long-duration battery energy storage systems.
• Facilitate capacity-building workshops across four international regions.
• Collaborate with organizations including IRENA, ISLG, and the Long Duration Energy Storage Council.
• Collect stakeholder feedback and continuously improve the toolbox.
• Support publication and global dissemination of the final resources.

Project Timeline

The consultancy will span approximately one year, with work divided into several phases.

September – November 2026

During the first phase, the consultant will prepare initial finance templates, technical documentation, and project resources.

December 2026 – May 2027

The second phase focuses on stakeholder consultations, revisions, and refinement of the toolbox based on expert feedback.

June – August 2027

The consultant will finalize the toolbox, support its online publication, and monitor pilot implementation activities.

September 2027

The project concludes with presentations during New York Climate Week, publication of a policy brief, and submission of final reports.

Candidate Requirements

The Global Solar Council is seeking highly experienced professionals with extensive expertise in renewable energy finance.

Applicants should possess:

• A postgraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Law, Energy Policy, Business Administration, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy project finance.
• Significant expertise in financing solar PV and battery energy storage projects.
• Experience structuring renewable energy investments in emerging markets.
• Knowledge of legal and commercial documentation including PPAs, EPC contracts, and O&M agreements.
• Strong understanding of project finance, investment risk, and financial modelling.
• Experience developing practical guidance documents, toolkits, or training materials.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Additional languages such as Spanish are considered advantageous.
• Willingness to travel internationally when required.

Experience working across Africa, Asia, or Latin America is particularly desirable.
