ClimateWorks Foundation is inviting applications for an experienced Finance Manager to join its Finance and Grants Department. This is a full-time opportunity for a finance professional with strong experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and nonprofit finance.
The position offers a remote work arrangement within eligible locations across the United States, with the option for eligible employees to work from the Foundation’s San Francisco office. The Finance Manager will report to the Senior Director of Finance and work closely with programme, accounting, grants and philanthropic partnership teams.
With salaries reaching US$130,000 per year, the role offers an opportunity for an experienced finance professional to contribute financial expertise to an organization working to accelerate global climate action.
About ClimateWorks Foundation
ClimateWorks Foundation is an international nonprofit organization focused on accelerating climate action. The organization connects funders and implementing organizations to support transformative climate solutions around the world.
Since its establishment in 2008, the Foundation has awarded more than US$2 billion in grants to over 850 grantees across 50 countries, working with more than 80 funding partners.
Through strategic philanthropy, collaboration and evidence-based decision-making, the organization supports initiatives designed to address major climate challenges and advance meaningful environmental progress.
Finance Manager Job Responsibilities
The Finance Manager will play an important role in supporting the Foundation’s financial planning, grantmaking and strategic decision-making.
A major part of the position involves financial planning and analysis. The successful candidate will develop and maintain programme budgets, coordinate budget-to-actual reporting with the Accounting team and contribute to annual budgeting and planning activities.
The Finance Manager will also prepare detailed budgets for donor proposals in collaboration with programme and philanthropic partnership teams. The role includes responding to donor budget questions and providing financial information to support funding decisions.
Additional responsibilities include conducting cost recovery analysis, supporting financial sustainability initiatives, preparing pricing reports, monitoring interest income across funding sources and completing financial analyses when required.
Grants and Financial Management
The Finance Manager will also support the organization’s grantmaking processes by reviewing the financial information of prospective grantees.
This includes assessing grantee financial statements, organizational budgets and other financial documentation to understand financial health and sustainability. The Finance Manager may prepare recommendations based on these reviews and work alongside the grants team on grants and contracts administration.
The position therefore requires someone who can combine technical financial knowledge with strong communication and collaboration skills.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Candidates should also have at least seven years of professional experience in financial planning, financial modelling and analysis.

The Foundation is also seeking professionals with excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important because the Finance Manager will work with teams across the organization.
An understanding of basic nonprofit accounting principles is also required.
Preferred Experience
Experience with financial and organizational management platforms can strengthen an application. Familiarity with Adaptive or Workday, Salesforce, Asana and nonprofit financial management systems is considered an advantage.
Candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing climate solutions may also be particularly well suited to the position.
Salary and Benefits

The salary ranges are:
- US$120,000–US$130,000 for employees in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City
- US$110,000–US$120,000 for employees in other eligible US locations
