The Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism (UAF) is inviting applications for a senior-level Director of Finance & Administration position, offering an annual salary of $165,845. The role provides an opportunity for an experienced nonprofit finance leader to contribute to a global organization supporting feminist movements, frontline activists and communities working toward justice, equity and liberation.

The position is full-time and permanent, with a four-day, 36-hour workweek. While the role is described as remote, applicants must live in the United States and be authorized to work there. Applications close on August 31, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET.

About the Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism

The Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism has spent more than 25 years supporting feminist activists responding to urgent threats and opportunities. The organization provides rapid-response funding to women, trans, non-binary and LGBTQ+ frontline activists while supporting movements seeking long-term social and political change.

UAF works as part of a global network of independent Sister Funds operating across Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, and other regions. Its approach emphasizes flexible funding, trust-based philanthropy, safety, resilience and movement building.

The Director of Finance & Administration will therefore join an organization where financial management is closely connected to its wider social-impact mission.

About the Director of Finance & Administration Role

The Director of Finance & Administration will report directly to the Executive Director and serve as a key member of the organization’s Management Team.

The successful candidate will oversee a $15 million organizational budget and provide strategic leadership across revenue management, financial planning, compliance, grant tracking, reporting and administrative systems.

A major component of the role involves managing approximately 35 restricted revenue streams. This includes budgeting, award processing, disbursements, post-award monitoring and grant closeout.

The Director will work closely with the Programs and Partnerships teams to ensure that donor requirements are met while maintaining efficient and flexible financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

The position is divided into three major areas: revenue management, strategic finance, and coordination and collaboration.

Revenue Management

Approximately 40% of the role will focus on revenue management. The Director will oversee the tracking and allocation of restricted funds while ensuring compliance with donor requirements and regulatory obligations.

Responsibilities include monitoring grants, coordinating budgets, overseeing disbursements and strengthening revenue allocation systems. The Director will also manage complex compliance requirements, including government and funder-mandated audits.

Strategic Financial Leadership

Around 35% of the position will focus on strategic finance. The successful candidate will lead annual budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning and financial reporting.

The Director will also oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, restricted funds and related releases. They will manage banking relationships, contribute to investment strategy and coordinate audit preparation.

Another important responsibility will be translating complex financial information into practical recommendations for senior leadership, Board members and colleagues without financial backgrounds.

Collaboration Across Global Teams

The remaining 25% of the role emphasizes coordination and collaboration. Since a significant portion of UAF’s budget involves collaboration with Sister Funds, the Director will work across regions and time zones.

This will involve developing financial projections, tracking income, preparing reports and creating shared systems that promote transparency and accountability.

Qualifications and Experience

The organization is seeking a highly experienced finance professional with at least 10 years of progressive experience in revenue management, philanthropy or nonprofit financial administration.

Candidates should also have at least seven years of progressively senior experience in finance, accounting, grant management or fund accounting within a nonprofit environment, including at least five years managing teams.

Experience with international grantmaking, donor compliance, financial risk assessment and multicultural organizations is particularly valuable.

The successful candidate should also demonstrate excellent communication, quantitative analysis, problem-solving and relationship-building skills.

Experience with QuickBooks Online, Google Suite, Microsoft tools and Expensify is preferred.

Salary, Benefits and Working Arrangements

The position offers a salary of $165,845 per year. UAF operates a 36-hour, four-day workweek and provides a comprehensive benefits package.

Benefits include health and dental coverage, retirement benefits, flexible spending benefits, HRA, phone and Wi-Fi reimbursement, and competitive paid time off.

The position also involves approximately 15% domestic and international travel and requires the ability to work across different cultures and time zones.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their application through the organization’s official application platform. Applications are being accepted until August 31, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET, with interviews expected during September and October and the target start date set for November.
