The successful candidate will report to the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and oversee the Finance Manager along with a team of seven indirect finance staff. About the Role

The Head of Finance will provide both strategic and operational leadership across CIVICUS’ finance function. The role combines high-level financial planning with hands-on management to ensure strong financial governance, transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability.

Working closely with senior leadership, the successful candidate will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audits, compliance, and organisational financial systems while supporting informed decision-making across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

The Head of Finance will be responsible for a broad range of financial leadership duties, including:

Financial Management and Reporting

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing accurate financial reports for management, donors, the Board, and other stakeholders.
• Leading organisational budgeting and financial forecasting.
• Preparing annual financial statements.
• Ensuring compliance with IFRS, US GAAP, and other applicable accounting standards.
• Managing month-end and year-end financial processes.
• Coordinating statutory, donor, and project audits.
• Reviewing donor financial reports for accuracy and compliance.
• Strengthening financial reporting systems and internal controls.
• Ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

Financial Governance and Systems

The successful candidate will:
