The Global Resilient Cities Network (R-Cities) is seeking an experienced finance professional for a remote Finance & Accounting Manager position. This is an exciting opportunity for an accounting specialist to support a globally distributed nonprofit organization working with cities around the world to strengthen climate resilience, sustainability, and inclusive development.

The role can be performed remotely from anywhere in the world, with preference given to candidates working within time zones between GMT-5 and GMT+3 to support collaboration between teams in Europe and North America.

About the Role

As Manager – Finance and Accounting, the successful candidate will oversee daily accounting operations across R-Cities’ global entities, ensuring accurate financial records, strong internal controls, compliance, and timely reporting.

The role provides a unique opportunity to help build and strengthen R-Cities’ internal finance function while working closely with the Lead – Finance, leadership team, and international partners.

The position is particularly suited for an experienced finance professional who is comfortable managing multi-entity accounting processes independently and improving systems in a growing global nonprofit.

Key Responsibilities

The Finance & Accounting Manager will manage core financial operations, including:

Accounting Operations and Financial Close

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining accurate general ledger records across multiple entities.
  • Managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense processing.
  • Leading monthly and annual financial close processes.
  • Reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, payroll, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Managing intercompany accounting and consolidation processes.
  • Supporting multi-currency accounting and foreign exchange reporting.
  • Strengthening internal financial controls.

Compliance, Reporting and Audit Management

The successful candidate will oversee:

  • Dutch accounting compliance requirements.
  • Foundation reporting obligations.
  • VAT administration and corporate tax processes.
  • External audit coordination.
  • Financial documentation and audit records.
  • Donor and grant compliance requirements.

The role will also support US GAAP reporting requirements with external advisors where needed.

Financial Systems and Process Improvement

The Finance & Accounting Manager will:

  • Maintain accounting systems and financial tools.
  • Support Sage Intacct configuration and improvements.
  • Develop accounting procedures and workflows.
  • Improve automation and operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance to colleagues.

Financial Reporting and Planning

The role will also involve:

  • Preparing management accounts.
  • Supporting board and funder reporting.
  • Conducting budget versus actual analysis.
  • Supporting forecasting and financial planning.
  • Communicating financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.

What You Bring

Ideal candidates should have:

  • At least five years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience managing month-end and year-end financial close.
  • Strong knowledge of the full accounting cycle.
  • Experience working across multiple entities or international organizations.
  • Knowledge of Dutch or US accounting standards.
  • Experience coordinating audits, tax compliance, and external advisors.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional advantages include:

  • Experience with both Dutch and US accounting environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualifications such as AA, RA, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting.
  • Knowledge of Dutch foundations (Stichting/ANBI requirements).
  • Experience with US 501(c)(3) organizations.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or similar cloud-based ERP systems.
  • Experience managing donor and grant compliance.
  • Dutch language skills.
