Experienced monitoring, evaluation and learning professionals with a strong background in feminist and rights-based approaches can apply for a Feminist Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Consultant opportunity with Everystory. The consultancy is designed for an experienced professional who can develop a practical, organisation-wide MEL framework that reflects feminist values, ethical practice and the long-term nature of narrative change work.

The opportunity is remote, with in-person meetings required when necessary. Applicants from Global Majority contexts outside Sri Lanka are welcomed. The engagement will run from October 2026 to June 2027, requiring approximately 8–10 working days across the engagement period. The available budget is approximately US$2,000–US$3,450, paid in the equivalent amount in Sri Lankan rupees.

The application deadline is 30 September 2026.

About the Feminist MEL Consultant Role

Everystory is a young feminist collective working around storytelling, knowledge sharing, feminist organisation and movement building. As its programmes, partnerships and team grow, the organisation is seeking to strengthen its approach to monitoring, evaluation and learning.

The selected consultant will design and develop a comprehensive feminist MEL framework covering Everystory’s programmes and projects. This includes initiatives such as the Stories of Sri Lankan Women and Young Feminists’ Network, as well as the organisation’s work hosting coalitions, providing fiscal sponsorship and undertaking creative consultancy.

The framework will need to be practical for a small feminist organisation while remaining accessible, ethical and responsive to the communities and issues it works with.

Key Responsibilities

The consultant will begin by conducting a situational assessment and stakeholder consultation. This will involve reviewing existing programmes, projects, funder reporting requirements, monitoring tools and data practices.

The consultant will engage the Core Team, programme leads and partners to identify current MEL gaps, organisational priorities and information needs. Active and planned programmes will also be mapped to establish appropriate MEL requirements.

A major responsibility will be developing the organisation-wide MEL Framework. This will include clear and simple data collection tools, a Results Framework or Logframe, indicators, baselines, targets, data sources, collection frequency and responsible team members.

The consultant will also develop or validate a Theory of Change that reflects Everystory’s feminist methodology and approach to social change through storytelling and movement building.

An indicator tracking matrix and recommendations for suitable digital tools for data storage and analysis will also form part of the work.

Learning, Reflection and Capacity Building

The consultancy goes beyond simply producing an MEL document. The successful candidate will establish systems that enable Everystory to learn from its work and use evidence to improve decision-making.

This will include designing periodic reviews, pause-and-reflect sessions and annual learning processes. The consultant will also provide guidance on collecting and ethically managing qualitative information such as stories, testimonials and community feedback.

At least two capacity-building or orientation sessions will be facilitated for the Core Team and relevant staff. These sessions will help team members understand how to use the MEL framework and tools in their everyday programme management.

The consultant will also produce an accessible MEL Implementation Guide explaining data collection, storage, analysis and reporting processes.

Expected Deliverables

The consultant is expected to produce several key outputs, including an inception report, draft Theory of Change, draft MEL Framework and Results Framework or Logframe.

Other deliverables include a complete MEL toolkit containing data collection tools and reporting templates, an indicator tracking matrix, the MEL Implementation Guide, two facilitated capacity-building sessions and a final MEL Framework incorporating feedback from the team.

Eligibility and Requirements

Applicants should have at least eight years of relevant experience in the feminist space and in designing or implementing MEL systems, frameworks or learning processes using feminist and rights-based approaches.

Candidates should have a strong understanding of feminist values, politics and ethical frameworks, as well as demonstrated experience developing MEL systems collaboratively and participatively.

Experience with long-term narrative change, qualitative and quantitative research, community-based programmes and ethical data collection is highly relevant.

Excellent analytical, writing and facilitation skills are required. Candidates should also be able to translate technical MEL concepts into clear, practical and jargon-free documents for people with limited MEL experience.

Experience integrating informed consent, community accountability and ethical handling of sensitive information into MEL practice is important.

Knowledge of the Sri Lankan civil society context is desirable, while exposure to Sinhala, Tamil and English working environments is an advantage.

Compensation and Application Details

The consultancy offers a budget of approximately US$2,000–US$3,450, paid in Sri Lankan rupee equivalent. The engagement runs from October 2026 to June 2027 and requires approximately 8–10 working days.

Applicants should submit a CV, details of two non-related professional referees, a technical proposal of no more than two pages and a relevant previous MEL framework, Theory of Change, Results Framework, Logframe, report or equivalent sample where confidentiality permits.
