About the Executive Director Role

Reporting to the President and Board of Directors, the Executive Director will serve as the organization’s senior staff leader, overseeing daily operations while driving strategic initiatives that strengthen programs, membership, partnerships, and long-term sustainability.

The successful candidate will work closely with board members, committees, contractors, volunteers, and external stakeholders to ensure the organization continues to grow and deliver high-quality services to its global membership.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Governance

The Executive Director will:

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the President and Board of Directors.
  • Prepare board meeting agendas, reports, and supporting materials.
  • Implement strategic priorities approved by the Board.
  • Oversee governance, finance, communications, membership, and organizational operations.
  • Supervise contractors, consultants, and external service providers.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • At least five years of progressively responsible nonprofit leadership experience.
  • Experience managing nonprofit operations, including communications, programs, membership, and administration.
  • Experience working closely with Boards of Directors and volunteer governance structures.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising employees, contractors, or consultants.
  • Experience managing budgets and collaborating with finance professionals.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership development skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate may also have experience with:

  • Advisory boards and volunteer engagement programs.
  • Healthcare associations or scientific societies.
  • Membership growth initiatives.
  • Strategic partnerships.
  • Medical, neuroscience, or neonatal health organizations.

Experience using association management systems (AMS/CRM), website content management systems, Google Workspace, Canva, and project management tools will also be beneficial.
