Exciting Homebased Fellowship Opportunity: Data Science Fellow (ML/NLP/LLMs) at UNDP

Are you a passionate data scientist interested in cutting-edge technologies like Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Large Language Models (LLMs)? The UNDP SDG AI Lab is looking for a Data Science Fellow to help deploy frontier technologies to tackle global development challenges.

About the Role:

As a Data Science Fellow, you will contribute to innovative projects that use AI, ML, NLP, and LLMs to address sustainable development issues. The SDG AI Lab, hosted under the UNDP Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD), focuses on leveraging AI for social good, addressing challenges like poverty, climate change, and more.

This home-based, full-time role offers an amazing opportunity to enhance your skills while working on real-world development issues. You will be involved in:

  • Conducting research on how NLP and LLM technologies can solve global development problems.
  • Developing solutions using NLP and LLMs for economic and international development.
  • Supporting the Volunteer Data Scientist Initiative to engage data scientists in SDGs-related projects.
  • Drafting analytical reports and project findings for broad audiences.

Key Qualifications:

  • Education: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or related fields.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in LLMs and deep learning principles.
    • Proficient in Python, Prompt Engineering, and data science tools like Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
    • Familiarity with NLP tools such as SpaCy, BERT, GPT-3, and more.
    • Strong SQL and data visualization skills (tools like Power BI or Tableau are a plus).
  • Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required. Proficiency in Turkish is a plus.
