Terre des hommes Seeks Expert for Child Rights & Business Feasibility Study | Swiss Social Enterprise Consultancy | Deadline 01 October 2026

Professionals and consultancy firms with expertise in social enterprise design, non-profit restructuring, legal and tax advisory, governance, financial modelling and corporate structuring are invited to apply for a consultancy opportunity focused on developing a potential social enterprise model for Child Rights and Business (CRB) advisory services.
The assignment seeks an experienced expert or multidisciplinary consultancy team to assess whether a full social enterprise or hybrid social enterprise model would be strategically, legally, financially and operationally viable. The successful consultant will undertake a comprehensive feasibility study and provide recommendations that can guide the future delivery and expansion of child rights and business advisory services.
About the Organisation
Terre des hommes-Lausanne Foundation is a Swiss-based international non-governmental organisation established in 1960. The organisation works to promote and protect the rights of children and young people and operates across several regions globally.
Its areas of expertise include child protection, health, migration, access to justice, mental health and psychosocial support, safeguarding, water, sanitation and hygiene, and Child Rights and Business.
Through its Child Rights and Business work, the organisation collaborates with private-sector companies to promote the protection of children’s rights within business operations and value chains. Its experience includes work in agricultural value chains and other sectors such as coffee, cocoa, cotton, artisanal gold mining, leather and adult entertainment.
About the Feasibility Study Consultancy
The consultancy will examine the potential creation of either a full social enterprise or hybrid social enterprise through which Child Rights and Business advisory services could be delivered.
The study will determine whether either model can provide a sustainable mechanism for offering specialised corporate advisory services while protecting the organisation’s mission, values, reputation and tax-exempt status.
The consultant will assess three broad scenarios: maintaining the status quo, establishing a full social enterprise, or establishing a hybrid social enterprise.
The assignment will primarily examine the Swiss legal, tax, governance and regulatory environment, while also considering international service delivery and whether alternative jurisdictions could offer advantages.
Key Areas of Work
The selected consultant will conduct a detailed assessment covering legal and governance feasibility, strategic fit, business modelling, financial sustainability, human resources, operational requirements, conflicts of interest, branding, intellectual property and data protection.
The financial assessment will include start-up costs, capital requirements, revenue projections, operating expenditure, cost recovery potential and break-even scenarios. Financial models will cover a three- to five-year period, incorporating best-case, expected-case and worst-case scenarios.
The consultancy will also examine potential risks, including legal, financial, operational, strategic, reputational, safeguarding, cybersecurity and compliance risks. Appropriate mitigation measures will be recommended.
A multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) will be used to compare the available options against criteria such as strategic fit, legal feasibility, financial viability, governance complexity, operational feasibility and reputational risk.
Expected Deliverables
The assignment will produce a comprehensive set of outputs, beginning with an Inception Report containing the assessment framework, benchmark analysis and refined research questions.
A Draft Feasibility Study will subsequently be prepared, followed by a Final Feasibility Study incorporating feedback.
Additional deliverables will include:
- Financial models for each option in Excel
- Risk register and mitigation plan
- Governance framework for each option
- Recommended operating model
- Conflict of Interest and Independence Framework
- Minimum documentation, policies and procedures
- Implementation roadmap
- Executive Summary of 5–10 pages
- Professional PowerPoint presentation of findings and recommendations
The consultant may also be requested to present the findings to senior management and the Board.
