Girl Effect Terms of Reference (Remote): GenAI Narrative, Content & Evaluation Specialist – Apply Before 18 February 2026

About Girl Effect

Girl Effect is an international non-profit organization that creates media designed to meet the needs, interests, and realities of adolescent girls. Through platforms such as chatbots, chat shows, television dramas, and digital technologies, the organization supports girls across Africa and Asia to make informed decisions about their health, education, relationships, and economic futures.

By creating trusted and safe digital spaces, Girl Effect provides accurate information on health, nutrition, education, and social issues while equipping girls with the confidence and skills to challenge limiting norms. With a reach exceeding 50 million, the organization leverages technology to deliver impact at scale, enabling girls to take control of their bodies, learning, and livelihoods. When girls are empowered to make transformative choices, the effects extend to families, communities, and entire societies.

Background

Over the last five years, Girl Effect has been at the forefront of developing conversational digital products that connect girls with critical health information. A key innovation has been Big Sis, a South Africa–based chatbot that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI (GenAI) to deliver sensitive information in a safe and accessible manner.

Girl Effect is now entering a new and ambitious phase through the Mental Health Anytime Anywhere initiative. This phase advances beyond traditional generative AI to predictive, agentic systems that can anticipate user readiness and deliver personalized pathways that support meaningful behavior change.

This phase includes two core components:

  • Mental Health Agent: A system capable of delivering single-session therapeutic support, developed in collaboration with clinical psychologists.
  • SBCC Agent: A Social and Behavior Change Communication agent that uses reasoning large language models (LLMs) to identify behavioral barriers and proactively guide users toward positive health outcomes, including service uptake.
