Role Overview: Education Justice Fellow

The Education Justice Fellow will work under the supervision of KFTC’s Organizing Co-Director and closely collaborate with other team members to advance education justice campaigns. This position is remote but requires the fellow to be based in Kentucky and participate in frequent in-state travel, including occasional overnight trips, evenings, and weekends.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Grassroots Organizing: Lead anti-racist, anti-colonial education campaigns across Kentucky.
  • Leadership Development: Recruit, train, and support diverse community leaders to advocate for public education.
  • Community Engagement: Organize workshops, webinars, and community meetings to mobilize members.
  • Policy Advocacy: Support campaigns promoting fully-funded, equitable public education, including Kentucky Public School Strong.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Build alliances with local, state, and national organizations working toward education justice.
  • Fundraising Support: Contribute to grassroots and foundation fundraising efforts to sustain KFTC initiatives.

Ideal Candidate Profile

KFTC seeks a fellow who brings a combination of experience, creativity, and a commitment to anti-racist, anti-colonial principles. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Organizing Experience: At least three years of experience in grassroots campaigns, leadership development, or volunteer organizing.
  • Anti-Racist and Anti-Colonial Commitment: Direct experience working in or with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) led movements.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to recruit, mentor, and mobilize volunteers and community members.
  • Strong Communication: Excellent interpersonal, group facilitation, and listening skills.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to plan and execute complex campaigns with flexibility and collaboration.
  • Self-Awareness: Commitment to personal growth, self-care, and collective well-being.
  • Technological Competence: Comfort using databases, Slack, email, social media, and online engagement tools.

Additional desirable qualities include knowledge of Kentucky’s education justice landscape, familiarity with local and state political structures, and experience in media relations or spokesperson development.


Compensation and Benefits

The Education Justice Fellow position offers a competitive annual salary of $60,000 and a comprehensive benefits package:

  • Full family health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 15 paid vacation days, 9 sick days, 3 personal days, 11 paid holidays
  • 5 closure days at year-end, 40 days paid parental leave, 20 days family care leave
  • Eligibility for a one-month paid sabbatical after five years
