Role Overview
The Research Analyst will contribute to two primary areas of work: the NCEE Programmatic Benchmarking Cycle and projects within NCEE’s broader research agenda. The Programmatic Benchmarking Cycle involves in-depth, multi-modal research on top-performing education systems, focusing on critical components such as curriculum design, teacher preparation, and assessment and accountability systems. The current benchmarking cycle, which focuses on assessment and accountability, will continue through mid-2027. Beyond benchmarking, the Research Analyst will support key projects, such as the Top Performers/Rapid Risers studies, AI in education guidelines scans, and other initiatives critical to NCEE’s research mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough literature reviews on thematic areas relevant to current and future research cycles.
- Perform comparative analyses of high-performing international education systems, maintaining and updating profiles of Top Performers, Rapid Risers, and other benchmarked systems.
- Design and conduct interviews and site visits with international and domestic experts, policymakers, and practitioners.
- Conduct qualitative research, including coding, synthesizing, and interpreting interview and document data.
- Assist in quantitative and mixed-method data analysis to extract actionable insights.
- Draft sections of research reports, analytic memos, and background papers for internal and external audiences.
- Participate in research planning, project management, and quality assurance to ensure timely and accurate delivery of outputs.
- Exercise professional judgment and diplomacy in external interactions, maintaining strong relationships with partners.
- Manage independent research tasks while collaborating effectively with team members and other stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum four years of experience in international comparative education research; additional experience in policy-oriented research is an advantage.
- Master’s degree or higher in education, social sciences, psychology, economics, or a related field.
- Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, with proficiency in tools such as Dedoose, R, or other statistical software being beneficial.
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex findings clearly to diverse audiences.
- Experience organizing meetings, workshops, or conferences is a plus.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and build effective partnerships with external stakeholders.
- Proactive, adaptable, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
