Remote Social Media Creator & Storyteller Job at Ecoversity: Earn Up to $3,200 Per Month

Are you a creative social media professional with experience in storytelling, short-form video, content creation and digital marketing? Ecoversity is hiring a Social Media Creator & Manager for a fully remote independent contractor position.

The opportunity is open to applicants based anywhere and could suit experienced social media managers, content creators, video editors, digital marketers and creative storytellers.

About Ecoversity

Ecoversity is an educational organization focused on helping people reconnect with themselves, each other and the natural world.

Its educational work covers areas such as herbalism, permaculture, food growing, ecological design and regenerative living. The organization combines ancestral knowledge with modern approaches to sustainability and ecological living.

The Social Media Creator will help bring these ideas to a wider online audience through engaging and visually compelling content.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work with Ecoversity’s Director of Brand & Creative Operations and co-founders on the organization’s creative direction and social media presence.

However, this is not a role where someone will simply wait for daily instructions.

The organization is looking for a creative professional who can identify opportunities, develop ideas and take content from concept to publication.

The role involves:

  • Social media management
  • Short-form video production
  • Content creation
  • Storytelling
  • Canva design
  • Video editing
  • Copywriting
  • Content strategy
  • Community management
  • Trend research
  • Social media publishing

A major part of the position will involve working with Ecoversity’s extensive library of interviews and conversations featuring teachers, farmers, herbalists, Indigenous knowledge holders, thinkers and other experts.

The creator will identify the strongest moments from these conversations and transform them into engaging short-form content.

Content Responsibilities

The Social Media Creator will produce approximately five pieces of content per week, or around 20–24 pieces per month.

Content will be distributed across:

  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • TikTok
  • YouTube Shorts

The expected monthly output includes approximately:

  • 8–10 podcast or interview reels
  • 4–6 original or trending reels
  • 6–8 carousels, graphics or other social-first posts

The role also involves writing captions, sourcing suitable B-roll, creating original footage when possible, scheduling posts and responding to comments and direct messages within one business day.

The organization wants someone who can recognize what performs well and use those insights to create more effective content.

Creativity and Business Strategy

This position goes beyond simply creating attractive social media posts.

Ecoversity is both a mission-driven organization and a business, meaning its social media content needs to support broader organizational objectives.

During launches and enrollment periods, the Social Media Creator will work with the brand, enrollment and leadership teams to develop content that supports campaigns and encourages potential students to engage with Ecoversity’s programs.

The successful candidate should understand when content needs to educate, when it needs to build community and when it needs to encourage people to take action.

At the same time, the organization wants its communications to remain authentic and aligned with its values.

Who Should Apply?

Ecoversity is looking for someone with strong social media instincts and a genuine interest in the natural world.

Applicants do not need a botany degree or formal environmental qualification. However, candidates should have a genuine appreciation for nature, plants, gardens, sustainability and ecological living.

The ideal candidate will understand:

  • Social media trends
  • Content hooks
  • Audience retention
  • Short-form video
  • Reels
  • Storytelling
  • B-roll
  • Canva
  • Video editing
  • Carousels
  • Social media analytics
  • Digital marketing
  • Community engagement

Candidates should also be independent, organized, responsive and capable of turning an idea into finished content without extensive supervision.

An understanding of cultural humility when working with Indigenous and traditional knowledge is also important.

Remote Working Arrangement

This is an independent contractor, deliverables-based position.

The successful candidate will set their own working hours and use their own tools. Ecoversity says it is focused on the quality, consistency, communication and ownership of the work rather than monitoring how many hours are spent producing each piece of content.

There will be a short weekly team meeting, while most collaboration will happen asynchronously.

Salary and Compensation

The position offers $2,600–$3,200 per month, depending on experience and portfolio quality.

The monthly retainer covers approximately 20–24 social media pieces, as well as:

  • Content ideation
  • Video editing
  • Canva design
  • Caption writing
  • Content sourcing
  • Publishing
  • Community management
  • Team coordination

Major additional work, including significant launch campaigns, live events or travel, will be discussed and compensated separately.

The organization plans to review the role, scope and compensation after 90 days.

How to Apply

Ecoversity plans to hire quickly, with a target hiring date of Friday, August 28, 2026.

Applicants should email hiring@ecoversity.org with the subject:

Social — [Your Name]

Applications should include:

  1. Three reels you have edited, particularly podcast or interview edits.
  2. Details explaining which reels you sourced or filmed yourself.
  3. Three graphics or carousels you have designed.
  4. A few sentences explaining your relationship with the natural world.
  5. One content idea for Ecoversity, including what you would create, where you would obtain the material and why the idea would capture attention.

Ecoversity specifically emphasizes that the creative portfolio and application materials are more important than a traditional resume.

Paid Creative Trial

Finalists will be invited to complete a paid creative trial worth $250.

Candidates will receive a theme and access to Ecoversity’s content resources. They will then have two days to identify an opportunity and produce a piece of content.

This means shortlisted candidates will be compensated for the creative trial rather than being asked to complete unpaid speculative work.

Who Is This Opportunity For?

This position could be suitable for:

  • Social media managers
  • Content creators
  • Digital marketers
  • Video editors
  • Social media strategists
  • Creative storytellers
  • Canva designers
  • Freelance content specialists
  • Environmental communicators
  • Sustainability-focused creators

For professionals who combine strong social media skills with creativity, storytelling and an interest in the environment, this role offers the opportunity to work remotely while producing content around nature, sustainability and regenerative living.

With compensation of up to $3,200 per month, flexible working arrangements and a paid creative trial, the Ecoversity Social Media Creator & Manager position is worth considering for experienced digital creatives.

Application deadline: August 28, 2026.
