Earthjustice, the United States’ leading environmental law organization, is hiring a Stewardship Specialist, Principal Gifts to help strengthen relationships with major donors and support high-impact fundraising initiatives. This full-time remote position offers an annual salary of up to $119,400 and is open to candidates working in or near New York, Washington, DC, Boston, Philadelphia, or select East Coast markets.

The Stewardship Specialist will join the Donor Marketing & Engagement Team and work closely with the Principal Gifts Team to design and deliver personalized stewardship experiences for major donors.

About the Role

The Stewardship Specialist, Principal Gifts will play a key role in developing meaningful engagement strategies that strengthen relationships with high-level supporters.

This is a non-supervisory, full-time position (37.5 hours per week) that includes occasional travel for donor events, planning meetings, and organizational retreats.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Partner with fundraising staff to develop customized stewardship strategies for principal gift donors.
  • Design and coordinate personalized donor engagement plans.
  • Organize virtual and in-person donor events, experiences, and stewardship activities.
  • Develop donor communications and stewardship materials.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure consistent donor engagement.
  • Serve as the primary stewardship contact for the Principal Gifts team.
  • Support strategic fundraising initiatives and relationship-building efforts.
  • Contribute to ongoing learning and professional development within the organization.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in donor relations, stewardship, or principal gifts fundraising.
  • Strong knowledge of donor stewardship best practices.
  • Experience managing fundraising projects and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Experience using fundraising databases such as Salesforce.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple teams.

Budget management experience and campaign stewardship experience are considered assets.

Salary and Benefits

Earthjustice offers competitive salaries based on location, including:

  • New York, NY: $107,500–$119,400 per year
  • Washington, DC / Boston, MA: $102,200–$113,500 per year
  • Philadelphia, PA: $96,800–$107,500 per year
  • Miami, FL: $91,400–$101,500 per year
