Freelance Campaigns and Digital Communications Lead: Remote Humanitarian Opportunity with Refugee Biriyani & Bananas|Deadline 30 Sept 2026

Professionals with experience in digital communications, social media, content creation, fundraising and campaign management have an opportunity to contribute to humanitarian work through a new freelance role with Refugee Biriyani & Bananas (RBB). The organisation is seeking a Freelance Campaigns and Digital Communications Lead to strengthen its online presence, deliver digital campaigns and help turn audience engagement into meaningful support.

The position is primarily remote, with some UK or international travel, meetings or field engagement possible by prior agreement. The role was posted on 27 August 2026 and has a closing date of 30 September 2026.

About Refugee Biriyani & Bananas

Refugee Biriyani & Bananas is a female- and community-led grassroots organisation working alongside people affected by displacement, war, conflict, injustice and instability. Its work includes direct humanitarian support, advocacy and awareness-raising across Greece, Gaza and Cairo.

RBB has developed a growing digital community, with approximately 11,400 Instagram followers, 8,000 Facebook followers and 1,300 Mailchimp subscribers. The organisation wants to build on this existing audience by improving consistency, engagement, reach and fundraising effectiveness.

Key Details of the Freelance Role

This is an initial 12-month freelance contract, including a two-month review period. The expected commitment is approximately 3–4 days per week, equivalent to around 24–32 hours, although the exact workload will depend on agreed priorities and available funding.
The anticipated rate is €12–€15 per hour, or approximately €96–€120 per eight-hour day. Applicants should indicate their proposed rate and recommended number of working days when applying.

Because this is a self-employed freelance engagement, the successful candidate will be responsible for applicable taxes, statutory contributions, insurance and other legal obligations in their country of residence.

What Will You Be Responsible For?

The successful freelancer will take hands-on ownership of RBB’s digital communications. This is not simply a strategy-writing position. The organisation expects the successful candidate to begin producing and publishing content from the outset while implementing and refining its wider communications and fundraising strategy.

Responsibilities include creating and publishing content for:

  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • TikTok
  • LinkedIn
  • YouTube
  • Mailchimp
  • WordPress
  • Fundraising platforms

Content may include social media posts, Reels, videos, blogs, newsletters, fundraising appeals, educational materials, advocacy content, impact stories, infographics and campaign graphics.

Applicants should also be comfortable using Canva or equivalent design software and CapCut or equivalent video-editing tools.

Campaigns, Fundraising and Audience Growth

Campaign delivery is at the heart of this opportunity. The freelancer will develop and deliver digital fundraising campaigns designed to move supporters from awareness and engagement toward one-off donations, recurring giving and longer-term involvement.

The role includes urgent and seasonal appeals, evergreen fundraising, conversion optimisation, crowdfunding and community-led fundraising initiatives. The successful candidate will also help build relationships with content creators, artists, community leaders, public figures, grassroots organisations and advocacy platforms.

Analytics will also be important. The freelancer will monitor audience growth, engagement, website activity, donor acquisition and fundraising performance, using insights to improve future campaigns and communications. Quarterly performance reports will be prepared for RBB leadership and its Board of Trustees.

Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is particularly suited to an experienced digital communications professional who can demonstrate independent content production and campaign delivery.

Applicants should have:

  • Experience creating, editing and publishing multimedia content
  • A strong portfolio of digital communications work
  • Strong Canva and CapCut skills or equivalent
  • Excellent copywriting and storytelling abilities
  • Experience managing social media and email platforms
  • Experience connecting audience engagement with fundraising
  • Ability to analyse digital performance and improve campaigns
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • An understanding of safeguarding, informed consent and ethical storytelling
  • Sensitivity when communicating about conflict, displacement and injustice

Experience with humanitarian, grassroots, community-led or politically sensitive organisations is desirable. Familiarity with photography, videography, influencer partnerships and additional languages such as Arabic or Greek may also be advantageous.

How to Apply

Candidates are required to submit a brief cover letter, CV and relevant examples of their own work. Examples can include social media accounts managed, graphics, Reels, TikTok videos, fundraising campaigns, newsletters, blogs, website content and evidence of measurable audience or fundraising results. Applicants should clearly explain their personal contribution to each example.
