About the Social Media Officer Role

The Social Media Officer will support the development and execution of MYCP’s digital communications strategy by transforming youth-led advocacy, research, and programme activities into accessible and engaging content for global audiences.

Working closely with the communications team, the officer will help shape MYCP’s online identity, create compelling social media content, and support campaigns that amplify youth voices in migration governance and policymaking spaces.

The Social Media Officer will report to the Communications Lead and contribute approximately 5–7 hours per week in this fully remote volunteer role.

Key Responsibilities

The Social Media Officer will play a key role in expanding MYCP’s digital reach and engagement.

Manage Social Media Platforms

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing MYCP’s social media channels, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and X.
  • Scheduling and publishing content.
  • Monitoring audience engagement and responding to interactions.
  • Supporting consistent online communication with global audiences.

Create Digital Content

The officer will:

  • Develop social media captions, graphics copy, stories, and short-form video scripts.
  • Create accessible content that communicates MYCP’s advocacy campaigns and organizational updates.
  • Translate complex migration and policy topics into engaging digital storytelling.
  • Support content creation that highlights youth voices and experiences.

Support Campaigns and Digital Strategy

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with social media campaigns around international days, events, and advocacy priorities.
  • Contributing ideas for content planning and digital engagement strategies.
  • Working with the editorial calendar to ensure consistent communication.

Collaborate Across Teams

The Social Media Officer will collaborate with:

  • Communications team members.
  • Graphic Design Officers to develop visual content.
  • Advocacy, research, and engagement teams to transform programme work into accessible online content.

Monitor Performance and Trends

The role also includes:

  • Tracking social media performance and audience engagement.
  • Reviewing analytics and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Sharing recommendations based on emerging digital trends.

Person Specification

MYCP is seeking creative and motivated young professionals interested in digital communications.

Applicants should:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old.
  • Have an interest in social media, digital communications, marketing, journalism, or related fields.
  • Understand major social media platforms and current digital trends.
  • Have experience creating content for organizations, campaigns, student groups, or personal projects (desirable).
  • Understand rights-based communications and ethical storytelling, or be willing to learn.
  • Have excellent written communication skills and strong English proficiency.
  • Demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to simplify complex topics.
  • Be organized, reliable, proactive, and comfortable working remotely.
  • Show commitment to youth leadership, inclusion, and MYCP’s values.

Knowledge of additional UN languages is an advantage.
