Call for Applications: YLabs Remote Youth Leadership Fellowship 2026 for Digital Wellness Advocates | Deadline: 5 June 2026

YLabs is offering an exciting remote fellowship opportunity for young leaders passionate about youth advocacy, digital health, and social impact. The organization is currently recruiting a Youth Leadership Fellow to support the national expansion of Askingforafriend.org, a digital platform designed to help adolescents access trusted wellness resources and guidance.
The fellowship is fully remote within the United States and offers compensation of USD $5,000 per month. Applications are open until June 5, 2026.
This opportunity is especially aimed at young people who are passionate about improving access to information and support around mental health, sexual health, gender-based violence, identity-affirming care, and adolescent wellness.
About YLabs
Founded in 2014 at the Harvard Innovation Lab, YLabs is a global design and research organization focused on building technologies that improve the lives of young people. The organization works closely with adolescents and youth communities to co-create digital solutions that address some of the most pressing social and health challenges facing young people today.
YLabs combines expertise in digital product design, adolescent health, behavioral science, epidemiology, climate resilience, and economic opportunity. With teams based in Rwanda and the United States, the organization has worked across 18 countries on projects focused on health, livelihoods, and youth empowerment.
One of its growing initiatives is Askingforafriend.org, a youth-centered digital platform created to help teenagers find reliable and stigma-free wellness support.
What is Asking for a Friend?
Askingforafriend.org was initially developed through a co-design process involving more than 300 young people in California. The platform was specifically designed for adolescents aged 12–19 from diverse and historically marginalized communities.
The platform helps users navigate difficult and often stigmatized topics including:
- Mental health support
- Sexual and reproductive health
- Gender identity and affirmation
- Gender-based violence resources
- Emotional wellness guidance
- Access to trusted care services
YLabs is now preparing to expand the platform nationwide in order to reach young people across the United States who may lack access to safe, supportive, and youth-friendly information.
The organization is seeking a fellow who can help lead this next phase of growth while ensuring the platform remains authentic, inclusive, and youth-centered.
A Fellowship Focused on Youth Leadership
Unlike many traditional fellowships, YLabs emphasizes lived experience, passion, and creativity over formal credentials. According to the organization, applicants do not need a “perfect resume” or extensive professional background to qualify.
Instead, YLabs is looking for someone who genuinely understands the challenges young people face and who is motivated to help create meaningful solutions.
The ideal candidate may have experience in:
- Youth advocacy
- Public health
- Mental health education
- Community organizing
- Digital content creation
- Peer support initiatives
- Research related to adolescent wellness
The organization also values strong communication skills and the ability to connect with young audiences in authentic ways.
Key Responsibilities of the Fellowship
The Youth Leadership Fellow will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of experts while contributing directly to the growth and development of Askingforafriend.org.
Content Development and Youth Engagement
One major aspect of the role involves creating and improving youth-centered content for the platform. The fellow may help develop:
- FAQ responses
- Decision-support tools
- Wellness quizzes
- Informational resources for adolescents
The content will respond directly to questions and concerns submitted by hundreds of young people already using the platform.
National Campaign Support
The fellow will also support the development of a national marketing campaign as the platform expands beyond California.
This may include:
- Creating organic and paid social media content
- Supporting youth outreach initiatives
- Building awareness campaigns
- Helping increase platform visibility among teenagers nationwide
Partnerships and Advocacy
Another important responsibility involves helping build partnerships with organizations and individuals aligned with the mission of youth wellness and digital health equity.
The fellow may also assist with:
- Speaking at webinars
- Supporting conference presentations
- Advocating for adolescent wellness resources
- Promoting the long-term growth of the platform
Compensation and Flexibility
The fellowship offers a monthly compensation rate of USD $5,000 for full-time engagement. The position runs from June through October 2026, with flexibility ranging between 50–100% time commitment depending on availability and project needs.
There is also a possibility for extension beyond the initial fellowship period.
Because the role is remote, it offers flexibility for young professionals and students across the United States who want to contribute to meaningful digital health work from anywhere.
Application Process
Candidates interested in the opportunity must submit:
- A resume
- A short 2–5 minute video introduction
The video should explain:
- Why the applicant cares about Asking for a Friend
- Why they want the fellowship
- What makes them a strong fit for the role
- Ideas for new quizzes or support tools the platform could offer
YLabs notes that professional video editing is not necessary, as the organization is more interested in hearing authentic perspectives and ideas.
Applicants can learn more about the fellowship and related initiatives through the official YLabs website.
As digital wellness platforms continue to grow in importance, opportunities like the YLabs Youth Leadership Fellowship provide young people with the chance to shape resources that directly impact their peers while gaining valuable experience in public health, digital innovation, and youth advocacy.
