An Emerging Culinary, Culture & Community Foundation is seeking an experienced Strategy, Programs & Organizational Development Consultant to help translate its mission and strategic priorities into practical programs, organizational systems, and an actionable implementation roadmap.

This is a remote, contract/freelance opportunity for professionals based in the United States, with compensation of up to USD $5,000 per month. The consulting engagement is scheduled to run from November 2, 2026, to May 3, 2027, with a possible extension depending on funding and performance. Applications close on October 5, 2026.

About the Foundation

The Foundation is a Harlem-based, community-centered cultural institution focused on preserving, advancing, and activating the foodways of African Americans and the broader African Diaspora.

Its work views foodways as important systems of knowledge, cultural authority, and economic opportunity. The organization is building infrastructure to document, interpret, and sustain cultural knowledge while creating opportunities for community engagement, education, and economic development.

The nonprofit was founded by a James Beard Award-winning chef, restaurateur, author, and cultural activist. It is incorporated as a Delaware 501(c)(3) organization and currently operates under fiscal sponsorship with the Fund for the City of New York.

About the Consulting Opportunity

The Strategy, Programs & Organizational Development Consultant will help move the Foundation from its planning and launch phase toward a stronger operational structure.

The consultant will work with the Founder, Board Chair, selected Board members, community and institutional partners, funders, advisors, and another consultant responsible for partnerships and resource development.

This is a senior-level, deliverables-based consulting engagement, rather than an employee or permanent management position.

The successful consultant will help connect the Foundation’s mission and strategy to practical programs, implementation systems, organizational capacity, and measurable milestones.

Key Deliverables

A major responsibility will be developing a six-month strategy and implementation workplan. This will identify priorities, activities, milestones, responsibilities, dependencies, deliverables, decision points, and target dates.

The consultant will also develop a strategic organizational roadmap connecting the Foundation’s priorities to programming, partnerships, funding, infrastructure, and organizational capacity.

Another important deliverable involves developing plans for at least two pilot programs or public humanities experiences. These plans will cover objectives, audiences, collaborators, responsibilities, timelines, resources, logistics, expected outcomes, and preliminary evaluation measures.

The consultant will provide coordination support for pilots taking place during the engagement and document results, stakeholder feedback, lessons learned, risks, and implications for future programming.

Additional work will include recommendations on organizational structure, staffing, consulting support, volunteer engagement, partnership capacity, and Board roles.

At the end of the engagement, the consultant will prepare a planning-phase transition report summarizing accomplishments, key decisions, systems established, lessons learned, outstanding priorities, risks, opportunities, and recommended next steps.

Qualifications and Experience

The Foundation is looking for a consultant with significant experience in nonprofit strategy, organizational development, institution building, program development, public humanities, arts and culture, community engagement, education, hospitality, or related areas.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to turn mission and strategy into practical workplans, implementation roadmaps, operating practices, and organizational systems.

Experience designing or implementing public-facing cultural programs, humanities initiatives, educational activities, arts programs, hospitality experiences, or community-centered projects is valuable.

Strong project-management skills are also required, particularly the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, priorities, budgets, timelines, and deliverables.

Experience working with founders, Boards, cultural practitioners, scholars, artists, chefs, community leaders, and institutional partners is preferred.

A demonstrated commitment to African American history, African Diaspora culture, foodways, cultural preservation, public humanities, or related fields is also important.
