Business Development Associate – Village Capital (Remote, US)|Deadline15 May 2026

Village Capital is hiring a Business Development Associate to support its Development & Innovation team in strengthening and expanding its funding pipeline. This is a full-time remote position based in the United States, offering a salary range of $68,000 to $74,000 per year, along with standard benefits including health coverage, retirement contributions, flexible work arrangements, and professional development support.

About the Organization

Village Capital is a global organization focused on supporting early-stage entrepreneurs working on solutions to social, economic, and environmental challenges. Since its founding in 2009, the organization has supported thousands of startups across dozens of countries and helped mobilize billions of dollars in capital toward impact-driven ventures. Its work spans entrepreneurship support programs, investment initiatives, and digital tools designed to improve access to funding for underrepresented founders.

The organization’s core focus is reshaping how capital flows to startups by improving both the supply of funding and the systems that determine how it is distributed. This role sits within that broader mission, contributing directly to the financial sustainability and growth of Village Capital’s programs.

Role Overview

The Business Development Associate plays a central operational role in the organization’s fundraising and partnership efforts. The position is designed for someone who can independently manage detailed execution work across prospecting, proposal writing, pipeline tracking, and funder communications.

Rather than focusing on high-level strategy alone, this role emphasizes consistent execution, organization, and follow-through. The associate ensures that opportunities are identified, tracked, and advanced efficiently through the pipeline, while also contributing to the development of written materials and funding proposals.

The role reports to the Business Development Director and supports the broader Development & Innovation team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Prospecting and Lead Development

A major part of the role involves identifying and researching potential funding partners. This includes foundations, corporate partners, government agencies, multilateral institutions, and private donors. The associate is responsible for building and maintaining structured prospect lists aligned with organizational priorities.

Outreach activities may include drafting introductory communications, coordinating follow-ups, and supporting engagement strategies that move prospects through the pipeline. The role requires strong research skills and the ability to identify non-obvious funding opportunities through careful analysis.

2. Proposal and Concept Note Development

The associate takes ownership of drafting standard proposals and concept notes from initial review through final submission. This includes responding to funding calls, managing deadlines, and coordinating inputs from internal teams.

For larger or more complex proposals, the role supports specific sections and helps ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment with funder expectations. Maintaining reusable content and improving proposal templates is also part of the responsibility.

3. Collateral and Communication Materials

The position includes developing funder-facing materials such as one-pagers, briefing documents, presentations, and summaries. These materials support engagement with potential and existing funders and help communicate Village Capital’s programs and impact.

The associate may also prepare background research briefs ahead of meetings and help ensure leadership has the information needed for effective engagement.

4. CRM and Pipeline Management

A key operational responsibility is maintaining accurate records in HubSpot, the organization’s CRM system. This includes tracking interactions, updating pipeline stages, and ensuring data accuracy.

The role also involves generating pipeline reports, identifying gaps in data, and supporting internal visibility into fundraising progress. Strong attention to detail and consistency in data management are essential.

5. Internal Coordination and Reporting

The associate works across teams to coordinate proposal inputs, manage timelines, and ensure deadlines are met. This includes supporting collaboration between program, finance, and leadership teams.

Regular reporting on pipeline activity and progress is also part of the role, helping leadership understand the status of funding efforts and upcoming opportunities.

Required Qualifications

Candidates are expected to have at least four years of experience in business development, proposal writing, grant writing, or related fields. Experience in nonprofit, consulting, international development, or similarly complex environments is preferred.

Strong writing skills are essential, particularly the ability to draft and refine proposals and funding documents. Candidates should also have experience with research, CRM systems, and managing multiple workstreams simultaneously.

Familiarity with funding ecosystems—such as foundations, corporate philanthropy, and international development donors—is important. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is expected.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently while coordinating with multiple teams.

Work Environment and Benefits

This position is fully remote within the United States, with a preference for candidates in the Eastern Time Zone. Village Capital offers flexible work arrangements and emphasizes autonomy and accountability.

Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, and life), a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, flexible paid time off, and additional stipends for professional development, wellness, and remote work support.
