Finance Data & Automation Systems Consultant (Part-Time, Remote) – Fortify Health | 6-Month Contract
Role Overview
This is a part-time, project-based consulting engagement with Fortify Health focused on building advanced financial data systems, automation workflows, and decision-support tools.
Unlike traditional finance roles, this position is designed for a systems thinker and data builder who can transform raw financial inputs into structured, automated, and reliable financial intelligence systems.
Organization Background
Fortify Health works to reduce iron deficiency anaemia at scale through wheat flour fortification programs across India.
As the organization grows, it is facing increasing complexity:
- Multi-entity financial structures
- Multi-currency operations
- Multi-donor funding environment
- Expanding reporting and compliance needs
To address this, the organization is prioritizing financial systems strengthening and data architecture design, rather than incremental process improvements.
Engagement Details
- Type: Independent consultant
- Commitment: ~20–25 hours per week (about 3 days/week)
- Duration: 6 months
- Location: Remote
- Work overlap requirement: Minimum 4 hours overlap with IST (9am–6pm)
- Compensation: INR 1000–1500 per hour (location-adjusted if outside India)
The engagement is structured around projects and milestones, not routine operational finance work.
Core Objective of the Role
The consultant will be responsible for designing and building end-to-end financial data systems that convert raw inputs into structured, decision-ready outputs.
Key objectives include:
- Transforming raw financial data into structured systems
- Building automation pipelines for financial processes
- Developing dashboards for leadership decision-making
- Reducing manual financial reporting effort
- Ensuring outputs are scalable, auditable, and sustainable
Key Areas of Work
Financial Process Automation
This is expected to be the highest-priority area of work.
Potential responsibilities:
- Automating invoice and reimbursement workflows
- Creating automated monthly financial reporting systems
- Automating salary payment reviews and reconciliations
- Designing structured data pipelines from raw inputs to outputs
- Producing audit-ready financial outputs
Key expectation:
- Systems must be durable, documented, and reusable, not one-time scripts
Management Information Systems (MIS) Architecture
Focuses on designing the structure of financial data systems.
Key tasks may include:
- Redesigning grant coding and tracking frameworks
- Building financial dashboards (burn rate, runway, utilization)
- Structuring data flows between inputs, processing, and outputs
- Improving financial data architecture and integrity
- Creating documentation for system design and logic
Key expectation:
- Outputs should be scalable systems, not just recommendations
Financial Modeling & Forecasting
This area focuses on strategic planning and decision-support tools.
Possible deliverables:
- Multi-year, multi-entity, multi-currency financial models
- Scenario and sensitivity analysis frameworks
- Cash flow forecasting systems
- Funding runway dashboards
- Strategic planning tools for leadership
Key expectation:
- Models must be robust, transferable, and leadership-ready
Working Style and Structure
- Work is structured around defined projects and milestones
- Consultant works directly with CEO, COO, and finance team
- Role is independent contributor, not operational finance support
- Requires ability to interpret ambiguous inputs and design solutions
- Strong emphasis on autonomy and execution
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a systems-oriented finance-data hybrid professional.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong systems thinking (input → process → output design mindset)
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets capability
- Financial understanding of statements and donor/grant reporting
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills
Strongly Preferred Skills
- Experience with Python, Apps Script, or AI-assisted automation tools
- Experience building financial models for strategic decision-making
- Background in NGOs, development sector, or donor-funded organizations
- CA, CFA, MBA Finance, or equivalent (not mandatory)
